Q&A: Will our babies eye color be green if both parents have a slight hint of green?
I have brown eyes with a hint of green, and my husband has blue eyes with a hint of green. Both of our parents are brown-eyed (mother, father).
Does that mean it will be possible to have a green-eyed child?

It’s very possible. But it’s also possible that he/she could end up with another color of another close relative such as a grandparent.

Ugh genetics is difficult,LOL.Its hard to say really it all depends on which genes were passed onto the child, which is a pretty random event.

Answer by princesssssss
its like this u have a dominant and recessive gene. recessive trait would in your case be the green eyes, though i doubt it would be manifested like that, still. if you both have a dominant-recessive pair [ie: Rr inctead of RR or rr] there’s a one in four chance of your baby having green eyes. I do think, however, the green glint isnt a recessive gene trait, its just a physical characteristic that developed out of no where since your parents have brown eyes.
so in a nutshell, its HIGHLY unlikely but it could happen.

I believe blue and then green are recessive and brown is the dominant gene, so the baby will probably have brown eyes, unless the mother had lighter eyes as a child, then your baby will probably follow suit.
I’m betting on brown with green eyes at birth – developing into brown eyes by high school! Good luck.

I wish there was a magic answer but there isn’t. It all boils down to which gene shines through. The most common though would be brown eyes. Anything is possible though. =)

“slight hint of green” isn’t really an eye color. In reality, you have brown eyes and your husband has blue eyes. So, I doubt it, green eyes are pretty rare.
