Most smocked dresses for babies are embroidered entirely by hand. Some are pleated by hand, too. All are made with extremely fine long staple 100% cotton fabrics. These fabrics can start at 20$ a meter and go up in price depending on the quality. Some are trimmed with expensive cotton laces and a few are trimmed with hand tatted lace. These dresses take many hours of hand work to make and they are to be preserved and considered an heirloom, something to keep and something the the baby can pass to his or her children when the baby is grown up.
