Who Has Given Their Baby Strawberry And Tomato Flavored Baby Food And Table Foods Before 12 Months?
My son has ezema and I am careful about certain allergy items but it is hard because many baby food and toddler foods have strawberry and tomatoes. Any suggestions?
A: Our doctor gave us the go ahead to start table food at 9 months old. So we mix in purees and table food. Usually he will have a bit of what we are having for dinner though it depends on what it is. As for tomatoes he has had a bit of tomato sauce made by great grandma.
A: I’ve also fed a child with eczema, and yeah, tomatos are definitely out. And strawberries shouldn’t be fed to any kids under 2 anyway!
At 12 months just switch to real food! Cheese, vanilla yogurt, apples, meat (soy based tends to be softer, meatballs are great, well portioned), cheerios. All of those are healthy and won’t make his eczema act up.
Avoid juicy fruits since the juice will cause the eczema to flare. So raisins over grapes, apples over peaches.
Meat and dairy don’t tend to be a problem, and although too much grain isn’t good, it doesn’t make eczema flare up.
The eczema really does get better. At 12 months ours looked like he had some terrible terrible disease, but now at 2.5 years he just has some dry itchy patches behind his knees, the insides of his elbows, and a single horizontal line on his lower back.
We bathe him in Aveeno and put moisturizer on him after bathes, or a couple times a day if he is scratching. You can’t see it on his face at all unless something makes it flare up.
He can now eat all the acidic foods and get juice on his face without flare ups.
Ours is allergic to dust and eggs, and those will cause flare-ups of his eczema, even on his face.
A: I gave Ebony strawberries at 5mo, like the fresh ones, I didn’t actually know you were meant to wait.
She has Tomato based dinner sometimes aswell.
A: keep a food diary, skip jarred foods & only serve foods you feed the rest of the family (smaller portions, of course!), and follow up with the allergist & dermatologist.
A: mine had jarred foods with both in it and had no probs with it; if u r concerned, talk to the ped first..
