When Should You Start Giving Your Baby ‘foods’ Other Than Milk?
1 January 2010
start off with baby rice and then little bits of pureed food and build up gradually.
6 months is the recommended time to start, babies digestive systems are mature enough by this age to start weening.
I started at 5 mos, 3 wks. It really wasn’t worth it before then – even that early it’s just once every day or two days or so and it’s more for fun for you than sustenance for them – they don’t get very much food at the beginning.
Remember how expensive baby food is – and don’t start early!!! You don’t HAVE to!
Mostly the 6 month mark is recommended because the baby’s digestive system is still developing, and is only to the point where the baby can digest other foods at around 6 months on average.
Another reason they suggest to wait until 6 months is because of any allergic reactions that the baby might have – after 6 months, babies have a better chance of making it through a severe allergic reaction without any long-lasting problems.
they say about 6 mths now, but i started both mine early at 18 weeks, my baby has been having just a little bit of rice once a day for two weeks now, just starting to introduce other stuff. if they are sleeping well, but then start waking again in the night and you have tried increasing milk intake, then you could try a little baby rice, but dont rush it.
pediatricians recommend at 6 months because younger babies wont be able to fight back if the food has too much bacteria or something.
With the current research they have made, they are reccomended not to have solids before 6months of age.
