When Did You Start Your Baby On Solid Foods?

26 January 2010

This is baby # 3 for me, but I cant remember when I started with my first two!

A:                Rice cereal at 3 months for both my kids. Slowly graduated into other pureed foods and then chunkier foods from then on. Isn’t it funny how we do forget from one child to the next even though we think at the time we will never forget that stuff!! (LOL)

A:                I’ve been a mother for almost 24 years and have watched the “rules” change many times over those years. Many years ago, before formula, women who could not breastfeed chewed (yeah gross) the food first and fed it to their babies. All of mine were fed real food from the get go. They have all grown healthy and have never had a problem with being picky eaters (only picky cookers, the oldest don’t like to cook). You need to read the signs from your baby and feed when THEY are ready, not when a book tells the doctors to tell you when. YOU are the expert on your children.

A:                I started both my sons at 4 months. My youngest is 4 months and he eats oatmeal, veggies and is starting on fruit. He loves his food gets excited when he sees it. I give him 2oz of baby food for lunch along with nursing and I give him some 2 tbs of cereal at night. He still nurses 5 or 6 times a day and sleeps at least 10 hours at night. I know some people say to wait until 6 months but 4 months has been the right time for both of my boys

A:               I started cereal at 3 1/2 months (recommended by dr for both–they needed help gaining weight and they took the cereal better by spoon than by adding it to their bottles)
At 4 months, i introduced baby food…and when they started getting teeth, i let them start eating table food

A:                I started one of my children as soon as the was allowed at 4 months. I started the other two at 6 months. The first one has alot of problems with allergies and the other two do not. I was told that giving food to soon can start a histamine response which can lead to allergies. I will never know for sure but I do not see the harm in waiting
