When Did You Start Baby On Table Foods?

24 December 2009

I’ll admit I give my son a taste here and there of some things Im eating (it’s hard not to when he reaches for everything on my plate ha)
He is almost 7 months old, and has been on pureed fruits and veggies since he was 5 months.
He also eats baby rice cookies, and has no problem picking up the pieces and putting them in his mouth.
No teeth yet, but Ive seen babies go til they are 18 months without teeth, and they learn to just gum the food
Do you think its too early to start table foods?

  1. not at all!
after six months, if he wants to eat it, he probably can.
we spent months not even serving my daughter a plate of her own – we just put extra on ours because she’d run from me to her father and back again picking off our plates (usually whatever we happened to be chewing at the moment).
i should add that by 8 months, she was eating apples (hand her the apple and let her chew, skin and all) and her favourite meal was (still is) curry goat.

  2. Just depends on what you are comfortable with & what you think he is ready for. Start small, mashed potatoes, things like that. My daughter is 10 months & I am just now starting to give her table food, and she has 5 teeth. I give her diced carrots & peas and she feeds herself and LOVES those.

  3. i start my baby girl on table food at 6months but now she 7months old now on the 15th of oct she will be 8months but u Ainu bye yourself she try’s to get food off my plate and i give her some of what i am eating some times here and there

  4. Mommy to Lauryn and Sydney

6 months we started out daughters on table foods, we are huge advocates of baby led weaning it has actually helped in having non picky eaters also, your baby as you have seen does not need teeth to eat foods if he can gum it he can eat it..

  5. Our daughter will be 9 months in 2 weeks and she is eating mostly table foods, she also has 5 teeth though, I think as long as you don’t give her too big of bites and foods that are too hard she will be just fine [:

  6. Definetly not, make sure you start with ALMOST puree and work your way up slowly. My little guy loves sweet potatoe fries, he owuld just gum them when he was young now he eats them every day

  7. heck no, feeed that baby:) he wants what you got to.
    good luck.
