When Can I Start Feeding My Baby Solid Foods?

31 January 2010

6 months is the recommended age.
As you see by the first posters information, she started her baby too early and it caused health problems for her little one.
At 6 months and when you notice these signs:
Baby will be ready when they lose the tongue thrust reflex.
When they can sit up and keep their body and head supported by themselves in a highchair.
When they show an interest in what you are eating.
Start baby on just a little bit of food, just a teaspoon or two so that her body isn’t filled up all of a sudden with food- it will take a little time for her body to get used to it. Slowly, you can increase the amount.
Always try each new food separately so you can check for allergies.
Pureeing food and freezing it into ice cube trays is a great way to have a supply of food for baby, it takes just minutes to defrost and ice cube size is great for little ones just starting out.

Q & A   Questions & Answer  Q & A

A:

4-6months. Look up signs that your baby is ready for solid foods to see if your baby is ready when you try him with them. Most will say no solids until 6 months but it’s up to you, it’s your baby and at the end of the day, if it was such a bad idea to give them before 6 months then baby food jars wouldn’t say from 4 months.

A:

4 months you can start rice cereals, but make sure they are really liquidly, the wrong consistency can become a hazard to the baby. When you introduce baby food start with the orange ones, carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash, then movie into the lighter ones then to the greens, wait to do the fruits for a little while they can get used to the really sweet fruits tooo early and reject the others.
Hope this helps.

Food companies will tell you 4 months, because they want you to use their products for longer, but there is really no need until 6 to 12 months. This is if you are breastfeeding…if formula feeding, then infants do need another source of nutrition around 6 months.

A:

I started solids at 4 months. My daughter is 5 1/2 months. We dont push solids on her daily and most days she doesnt have solids at all. The only nutrition they really need is formula. I also make my daughters food. Its really easy!!
Whatever you feel is best for your child, you do. There will be a million people who answer this question who will push waiting until they’re 6 months old. Its ultimately up to you.
As for the people who say it has link to obesity. My daughter eats organic food and so do we, nothing but healthy. I would like to see an obese child who eats completely healthy, fruits and veggies…but was fed solids at 4 months old lol.

Every baby is different… usually between 4-6 months… but closer to 6 months. Look for the signs that China Next week says:
