Infants are changed 10-12 times daily, so it is often an easier choice to select gowns over cute little outfits with legs that require lots of snaps. However, you need the cute little outfits with legs if you are going somewhere with the car because gowns don't work so well in a car seat.

I never used anything but onesies and footie sleeper pjs for my daughter up until she was a year old. Anything else just seemed useless, especially since they were always getting dirty or she was growing out of them.

Definitely onesies and sleepers. Babies have a five day old check up, a six week check up, and then check ups every two months. Because they will be weighed and have a hemoglobin stick, and shots, I always take them to the first three appointments in a onesie and socks. Not to mention all the times you will be changing the baby's diapers, changing clothes after a spit up, etc. Onesies are the best for quick changes, and they are cotton, so the material breathes. If it's cold, I'll put a sleeper over. Always swaddle with a receiving blanket.

Sleepers, that is all they need, I change my daughter almost 4 times a day. For a newborn to have clothes is a waste of money. Infants hmmmm..... Same thing sleepers until she is about 1 years old. Unless you go to a birthday party and you want your baby to be dressed up.
