what is the chance I have green eyes?

Question: what is the chance I have green eyes?
I have green eyes. Both of my parents have brown eyes. My dads dad has brown eyes and my dads mom has green eyes (I’ve been told mine look exactly like hers). My moms mom has hazel eyes and my moms dad has brown eyes. What was the chance I Have green eyes? Obviously I have green eyes but I would imagiine the fact that neither of my parents have green eyes makes green eyes pretty rare. This is simply something I’ve always wondered and I appreciate the help.

well green eyes are a recessive trait so you have to have two green alleles for a person to have green eyes (the same goes for blue)
where as brown eyes are dominant so they only need one allele for brown eyes, which means they could have one for brown then the recessive green one, but you will only see brown eyes on them
this is a little bit of genetics so sorry if you don’t get it
so since we know green eyes are recessive, and you have green eyes then you have two green eyed alleles. and by rules of genetics one came from your mom and one from your dad
this means that even though they show brown eyes (because that is dominant) they also had to have carried the allele for green eyes
now by setting up a punnett square you can prove that any children your parents have will have a 25% chance of having green eyes
so lucky you!! there was a 1/4 chance you’d get green eyes and you got them

50/50. My dad has light brown eyes and my mother has green eyes. My brother has bright blue eyes from only two great grandparents on either side. As long as both parents have the allele for green eyes at least two generations back, it is a good chance you’ll have that eye color.

This is the “awesomeness” of genetic. Even though both of your parents have brown eyes, there is always a chance to born with green eyes because someone in your family tree have green eyes (in this case, your dad’s mom). When you have kid in the future, it is possible for your baby to have green, hazel, or brown eyes. I don’t know how big the chance to get green or hazel eyes since most people in your family tree have brown eyes, maybe the chance is small…
Hope this help…

Green is actually a trait of blue eyes, as hazel is a trait of brown eyes. This means that in order for someone to have green eyes, they must have two blue alleles, just like someone with blue eyes. Someone, like your mom’s mom, would need to have at least one brown allele in order to have hazel eyes. Brown is then dominant over blue. That is shown as Bb where B is brown and b is blue. Your father has brown eyes, so he must have at least one B, his mother had green, so she had bb. This means your father’s alleles are Bb. Your mother also must have at least one B, and since you have green eyes, that means her second allele is also b. If you set up a punnett square, each section counts for 25% and it would look like this:
B b
B BB Bb
b Bb bb
bb is what you have, you had a 25% chance of getting these alleles.
