Your physician is the only person who can give you a good answer to that. Every baby is different and some formulas don’t agree with some babies.

Its really trial and error. I out my baby on SMA and he loved it, they all pretty much do the same thing but if you start him on one and it doesn’t agree with him then change. Its Absolutely your choice what too start the baby on.

It is your decision. But with my daughter we tried her on Enfamil A+ first and that was a nightmare. She was fussy, gassy, screaming, spitting up. We switched her over to Enfamil Gentlease and it was even worse. So we then gradually switched her to Nestle Goodstart and she doing amazing. Almost instantly the spitting up,gas, screaming stopped. Good Luck

Every baby is different, so it really is a trial and error kind of thing.
The hospital will have a certain brand, so that is a good place to start. If it works then stick with it. If not then you will have to try out other kinds. Your pediatrician will have info for you too. Since they are the ones monitoring your baby’s health, and not us. =)
Our hospital used Similac Advanced with Early Shield, and my son seemed to do well on that until he hit about 6 months. We ran into some constipation issues and switched to the Good Start Pro Plus…. which so far is going good.
My niece on the other hand went through every type of formula out there in the first couple of months. She finally settled on the Good Start Gentle Plus.
All the different brands are pretty much the same, it really just depends on your baby as to what type they are going to need. Don’t worry you two will figure it all out. =)
The same thing holds true for bottles. Every baby is different and you never know which one is going to work right for yours. I like the Playtex with the drop in liners, and my son took to them right away. They are probably a little more expensive since I have to keep buying the liners all the time, but its worth the convenience of not having to sterilize bottles every day! So if you are on a budget keep that in mind. Just don’t go over board buying 10 cans of formula and 15 bottles until you are sure that they will work for your baby. =)
Good Luck and Congrats!

The best formula is the one your baby is most happy with. Start with a brand, I use Aptamil (UK) when I switched from breast to bottle when my LO was 2 weeks old. She had no problems whats so ever so we never felt the need to change.
My Friends daughter didn’t get on with the 1st brand she tried so she switched a few times until she found one her daughter was happy with.
You will know if your child is unhappy is they are constipated, gassy or tummy pains (pulling legs up & high pitched crying). Give them a week to get used to it 1st and if they are unhappy, try a different brand.

What Claire said. There is no reason why you can’t start off on generics like Parents Choice (Walmart). Formula is regulated by the FDA. The generics are often produced by the same companies and the only difference is labeling.
Some doctors may advise you to stick to name brands, but they are often pretty ignorant of infant nutrition and may be getting kickbacks.

Another option might be obtaining breastmilk from milkswap.com. There’s nothing much to choose between the brands, they all chop and change ingredients to use what is cheapest at the time, it’s funny how people swap about saying it doesn’t suit!
