Want To Start Making Baby’s Foods. He Is 6 Months Old Now. Anything Special I Should Start Hime Off With?
9 January 2010
Will the food be different on his stomach than what he has already had in the canned food? I am guessing it should be much better for him, but I wondered if it could upset his stomach and what foods would be easiest to transition. Thanks.
You could visit my website, http://www.learning-graph.com/recipes.ht… , which has excellent resources for children’s diet.
baby oatmeal or cereal, baby sweet potatoes
Since your baby has had the jarred foods before, he should do well with the homemade items. Try pureeing foods that he’s already tried –bananas, carrots, etc. Then see how he reacts to it. He should be just fine. For recipes and tips, go to:

My son has been on homemade baby food for a few weeks already and he’s been just fine. I’ve been following the above site for recipe ideas and it’s been great…and free to use!
Veggies and fruit, Nothing with too much citric acid.
Bananas
apples
pears
green beans
peas
potatoes
sweet potatoes
Carrots
and once he does OK on those then start trying meats, but dont add spices or salt to your babies food!
Good luck!
No just keep it bland. I would start with sweet potatoes. Most babies like that, then carrots, apples and bananas are really easy because you can just mash a super ripe banana and it magically turns into mush. Just make sure you mush it up til their are no lumps! Have fun!
I make my own baby food. Your son will most definitely like the stuff you make over the jarred stuff. When we were travelling I tried to feed our daughter strained peaches from a jar and she refused to eat them! Homemade pureed peaches is her favourite breakfast at home though.
You don’t need recipes to make baby food. Just puree a variety of fruits and veggies. You can mix them for something different or feed them separately. I use a food mill that my Mom passed down to me, she used it to make my baby food. They are still available and work exactly the same. The only thing my daughter doesn’t like is peas, I just mix a little pureed apple into them and she loves them! So experiment and see what your baby enjoys. To make things a little easier I buy a big bag of pre-cut sweet potatoes and squash from Costco and just steam a little at a time (enough for 2 or 3 meals) and mash it up for the baby then it is always fresh. Other things like carrots and peas I normally only make one meal at a time. Many people make large batches and freeze them to save time. I am a stay at home Mom though and have the time to make the stuff fresh everyday.
One of Olivia’s favourite meals right now is a “casserole” of ground beef, butternut squash and rice. Be creative! It’s a lot of fun to come up with new meal ideas for baby.
Mashed Potatoes n cheese
Mince n tatties
Mashed vegetables
Also add gravy to flavour food
U can give ur child anything u eat u should just blend it 1st
Also when making homemade meals just make extra n u can mash it n freeze it so all u need 2 do is “put in ice cube
tray n take few blocks out at a time in the morning n they will be defrosted by feeding time n u can choose how much the baby needs adding/taking away xtra cubes” TOP TIP
Boil vegetables and chicken(no skin) in a pot. Then you can seperately liquefy each ingredient seperately in a blender(or a special baby food mixer) with a little bit of the water that was used to boil the food with.
This way you have warm tasty homemade Gerber food instead of cold been sitting in the shelf food.
Veggies: potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, etc.
Meats: chicken.
Fruits: orange, mango, apple, pear, plum, peach, banana, etc.
