Have you ever noticed how kids fully express their emotions?  Originally I thought it was a “problem” – kids got older, didn’t speak their minds, and became more “mature”.
Toddlers express emotions in many ways. They use body language and crying to get the point across.  Their expression is truly authentic.  When they want food, they get to the point.  They either cry verbally demand food.  “Oh no!  They didn’t say please.  That’s not polite!”  Demanding food or asking for it without a please just gets to the point faster.  Now, I’m not advocating we all go around talking like children or caveman, screaming “Me want food!”
Toddlers and kids can also teach us a lot about creativity.  What they create is neither good or bad – it is what it is.  Think about how abstract and rudimentary their artwork is.  Sometimes doesn’t make sense.  But to them, there is no “proper” way.  There is only the way they do it.
Lastly, toddlers don’t really have the idea of negativity in their minds.  Sure, they may cry, but it goes away quickly.  We think it’s “weird” that they don’t hang on to their emotions.  Sometimes they pout, but that is an emotional technique they believe will benefit them.
I believe in releasing your inner child.  My creativity and other aspects of my life have improved when I have embraced my 5 year old.  I became more spontaneous and stopped labeling things so often as good or bad.  Even my friends think I can be very childlike – there are times you can find me watching a Simpson’s Episode, giggling like I’m 5 years old.  Why hold back?  The ability to express your inner child is a virtue!
