a site i like for little kids is kizclub.com its an english as a second language site (the other language is korean) our daughter is in preschool and this site is great fun it ties the activities to books and provides so many activites broken down. I am not sure if it is of value for children much older than 6 or 7 though. I thought i woudl mention it for consideration.
The korean is very very minimal on the site.

There’s lots of stuff on the history/social studies list of sites that I have compiled but I have yet to find any sites that are specifically for creative writing. I have found a few that concentrate on penmanship.
If you are looking for a on line curriculum with the core subjects you might try time4learning.com it is comparable to ALEKS but with all of the subjects not just math. It, like ALEKS is not free.

That is the order that they learn it, sing it, and the dictionary is written in.
It has a begining and an end, and is easy to learn it that way.
Answer by Baby Poots
I don’t think there is a “best” letter order to use when teaching kids to write. Teach them the English symbols for the alphabet, the names of each symbol, how to make each symbol, sounds for each symbol, construct some simple words a child can associate with, such as dog, cat, home, mom, mother, daddy, baby, sis, sister, brother, car, their name, and build from there.
Children can learn to read and write at the same time. You read words, you write the same words. You read the words again, you write the words again. Over and over and over and over.
There are some sounds that are more easily made by young children, which would mean these sounds might be the first you begin to teach. The sounds of vowels, the consonants l, s, m, n, p, t, b, d, f.

How we teach western kids to write Chinese characters
Beautiful:

Like many families that move to China, we have tried different ways to help your lad to learn Chinese. Through trial and error, we have found a few ways that make a difference. This is the approach that works that best. After 9 months here, this learning ‘game’ we use has proved a huge success. He got 94% in his exam last month.
Remember, the tests are all in Chinese. 9 months ago he had almost no Chinese. Here’s how we (well, my wife) does it.
We write the words on the floor with a felt tipped pen using pinyin. This is the phonetic spelling of the word. Learning pinyin is fairly straightforward, though you need to understand the tones: 1,2,3,4 all of which have different means.
So,
Ma with tone #1 means Mother
Ma with tone #2 means Pig
and so on…
The trick is to pronounce the words with the right tone, otherwise…
To learn the Chinese characters, we write the pinyin on the floor (it works like a giant white board) and then ask junior to write in the characters.
This ‘game’ works with kids. They like the idea of filling in the gaps and working towards completion. I guess it’s like completing a jigsaw.
