Q&A–: Do you feed your toddler snacks between meals?
My mom watches my two sons (one will be one year old next week, the other will be 28 months old next week) while I work during the day. She insists on feeding them two large meals (breakfast and lunch) during the day instead of two smaller meals and two snacks. She says they eat better/larger meals if she doesn’t give them snacks. I believe if the snack is healthy (fruit, yogurt, etc.) then it shouldn’t make a difference if they don’t eat ALL of their breakfast or lunch, or eat a huge portion. I would rather feed my boys six small meals than three huge ones. Anyone who has a two year old knows that they are prone to “meltdowns” periodically, and I have to wonder if my older son is behaving like this because of low blood sugar. It just doesn’t seem right to me to have two young children eat breakfast at 7:30 a.m., then have NOTHING between then and lunch time (about noon). She does give them juice when she brings them in from their walk in the a.m., but that’s it. Advice?

Question–: Ideas on what to feed a 1 1/2 year old?
He has 4 teeth and doesnt do so well chewing things up, although he can handle nutrigrain bars, graham crackers, and veggie puffs. I am looking for ideas that will help me to get him off of baby food (that pureed, jarred stuff) and on to more finger foods, and more toddler type stuff. I am worried that he cant chew harder foods because he has only 4 teeth and two gaps on his top gum line (had cleft lip and palate… both fixed but still will have a gap in the gums until he is 7). Any ideas on what to feed him?

Question–: Why can’t a baby have egg whites? What do you feed your baby for meals?
I don’t “get” why he can’t have egg whites.

I also need meal ideas for an 8 months old. He does great with Cheerios, not so good with other foods that are slick, although he did “feed” himself his oatmeal this morning! (Boy, that was a mess and a half!) Those mesh feeders he does great with as well.
Do I need to give him yolks then whites, or just the whole egg is ok?
Soooo…. Since he’s had frozen waffles he should be ok huh?
