Q&A: How much cereal or baby food should my six month old baby be eating?
I just recently got my baby to start eating cereal. She used to keep spitting it out. She still will not eat baby food. I’m worried that she is too dependant on formula. How do I correct this and how do I ensure she is getting enough food and nutrition? How much baby food and cereal should she be eating at six months of age? Any advice is appreciated.
My son seems to not want the bottle as much anymore – used to drink 8 oz at a time, now will drink only 5-6 on occasion, sometimes will finish an 8 oz bottle. When do babies typically begin dropping off the amount of formula drank? This is my first, so I am new to much of this …
Babies know when they are done eating. Feed them a little bit of cereal and or food first. Then when they are done offer the bottle…they will drink till full. Do not force any food or milk on them. If they dont like a certain food then stop then try it in a few days. Hope this is helpful.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a pediatrician.
However, I am a a mother of two young girls and have started them on baby food (usually just rice cereal) between 4-6 months. give the baby a try and if they seem to enjoy it and can handle the function of eating (since they’ve been used to just swallowing liquid) then continue.
if you’re adventurous, you can make your own rice and blend it smooth. but for a baby at 4-6 months, start with the store bought boxes, which come in flakes.
good luck!
My pediatrician advised me to start my daughter on rice cereal at 4 months. You can add baby food jars of fruit to the cereal after a couple of weeks.
