Have you started to prepare for your bundle of joys first year of life? When I say this I mean the cost that goes into having a baby. You will be surprised on the amount of stuff a little person needs. Really they require a lot of care. So here are some things to help you prepare for the first year of a new life.

Medical

Most of the time making the baby is free right? Okay, so people may have to incur a cost to make the baby but overall it is low in cost. Now getting into having the baby is different. You need to plan on the cost for the baby while you are in the hospital if for some reason the need to stay longer than normal arises. Now if you do have insurance this will definitely help. After you bring them home, it is not over yet. During the first year the baby has regular doctor visits to monitor the growth and get vaccinations that are necessary costs in having a baby.

Clothing

Over the first year you will have a strain on the pocket book when it comes to clothing. The baby will grow the fastest during this time of it’s life. Don’t get me wrong, this is super exciting to watch but can get costly. Not only will they grow fast out of them but they do tend to mess them up fast as well. So think about having multiple changes throughout the day and plenty of different sizes.

Toys

Everyone loves toys and babies are no exception. This is also some of the joy of spending money because it has an impact that comes with a smile. Between one and three months they don’t really do much playing but by third they are normally ready to explore the world. We all know that you don’t have to have toys for the kids but it does open their mind to explore and we all want to have a happy baby so as parents this is an area that you might over indulge. So don’t forget to add toys into your budget and maybe even add some extra coverage so you don’t go over.

Feeding

Depending on if you’re planning to breast feed or use formula can really play a big part in planning the feeding budget. Breast feeding your baby is known to be better for the baby at least during the first couple days because breast milk has the most nutrients. Now this doesn’t mean that by giving formula your baby is going to have issues, I promise. If you are going the breast feeding way it will save on cost as well though. So you have a couple of things to think about. If you are going the formula way then you need to research the cost of that and remember the first six months will be the most that you will use. By the sixth month you should be starting on baby food which will then add cost to your grocery bill. So again, you have a couple of things to think about in feeding and this is a must.

Diapers are a must I would say. Now you have two options you can go with for diapering. You can go with disposable ones that offer more protection for the babies buns because of the wetness they offer, it just adds extra cost because of not being reusable. You can also use cloth diapers that will save on cost you will just see some increase on your water bill from the extra laundry you will have to do.

There are more baby costs that you will see in the first year but these are some big ones to factor in when you’re trying to make a budget. Remember you don’t have kids to save money. It’s the joy of making a new life and watching it grow.
