Q&A–: 10 month old baby girl rubs on the straps of her high chair and stroller?
My baby girl started doing this about 2 months ago, and it is very stressful. I just want to hear of any one else who has any experience with this . . . if it will go away . . . and how it started? I have tried to ignore her as I don’t think it is “harmful” but it does affect her eating as she is very distracted while in her high chair. Please help!

I’m going to assume that I know “where” she is rubbing… and yes, it’s normal… it’s her body, and it’s all new and exciting… Once she’s old enough, you can tell her to go do it in private but in the meantime, just try and distract her… if you can’t distract her just let her be…

It may just be a phase, but it may be a sign of sensory processing disorder. Sounds like a tactile issue. She is quite young, but look out for things like: hates OR loves getting hands and face dirty, using playdough, etc. Toe walks to avoid the sensation of the floor texture. Hates shirt tags. Feels compelled to touch things. You can check out this book (I forgot the author): The Out of Sync Child. My son has PDD NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified) and he has some issues like this. Also be on the look out for delayed speech. If she doesn’t talk by 2, ask her pediatrician for a referral to early intervention so she can get speech! (Sorry about way too much information, but just in case!). Good luck!

Are you talking about rubbing it between her legs? My niece does this, my sis in law took her to the doctor and the dr. pretty much said its normal and just to let her and not get her in trouble, its the same as a little boy playing with his thing. She 3 now and she rubs her self at the grocery store or anywhere else she can. I have a friend whos daughter does it too, so i guess its fairly normal????

Try tucking a blanket in between her and the straps.
Try a bib that covers most of her and the bibs with the ‘trough’ that catch food in also.
Give her a toy or spoons to play with to distract her. But do ignore it. It is probably just a phase she has discovered

It’s perfectly normal, my daughter(now 5yrs old) use to do that when she was about 2 and stopped on her own after some time. Even at that young age, they do have sensations down there. You could try putting a small pillow or folded up blanked between her and the straps, thats what i did with my daughter.
Answer by Ella’s Mommy
Just ignore it while she’s in the stroller, since it doesn’t interfere with anything. Then take the straps out of the highchair, you don’t *really* need them. I never buckle my daughter in, the tray hold her in and there is another tray under that one that doesn’t move, so i know she’s not going anywhere. If you happen to have a climer (i don’t) then just make sure not to turn your back while she’s in. No straps = she doesn’t have anything distracting her. Put them back in a few months from now and the phase will probably be over.

stroller straps–: Where to find replacement strap for stroller?
I got an older Jeep double umbrella stroller for free. The only thing wrong with it is that one of the foot straps is broken. Does anyone know a great place to buy a replacement one without know what model it is exactly?

Give Kolcraft a call. You should be able to get one from them probably at a nominal charge.
If you look on the underside of the stroller on one of the frame there maybe a white sticker that has the information about the make and model of your stroller.
