My little one is eating cereal now too.
This is what my Doc told me:
Rice cereal 1x daily for 1st month (work up to 4T cereal with breastmilk)
Then ADD 1T veg to this for next month. (Try one new thing per week to screen for allergies)
Then feed rice cereal w/veg 2x daily (breastmilk between). Work on increasing amount for rest of 1st year.
Blessings to you.

Just start slow and steady – your little one doesn’t need too much at this point because his nutritional needs are met through breastmilk or formula. It is just a taste experience right now, so relax a bit, if you can!
Start with the basics….rice cereal once a day, oatmeal once a day – a couple of tablespoons to start as a serving. Every three to four days add a new food or substitute, serving this food as your only new food for those days. This is so that you can determine if it agrees with him or if there are any allergies and you know right away what food to stop.
Go by his signals – if he wants more, you can feed him a bit more, and if he doesn’t want solids just go by his cues! Start with stage one (or if you are making it yourself, puree with water to thin the consistency). Banana, Pear, carrot, peas, and even avacado make great first baby foods….mine LOVED avacado pureed with water and a bit of barley cereal.
Just start slow and take your time. You don’t need to offer juice right now, it has little nutritional value and lots of sugar, so it isn’t necessary. Good luck and take pictures – it’s messy but fun!

I gave NY a thumbs up cause she answered really well. I too gave my kids solid foods like cooked green bean and mashed potatoes on a small plastic plate, etc. at about 6 months. Baby food jars are soooo expensive and not worth it. Just remember to try one food consecutively for three days to rule out food allergies and to allow the child to get used to it.

All good questions!
You do not have to start with cereal. It’s not necessary- and tastes awful! Why ruin a perfectly good palate? Our youngest started solids at 6.5 months- and went to veggies. She did all the veggies and then the fruits. How much? I started with a tablespoon and moved up if they like it. 1/2 a jar was about what they finished each night.
Juice- I didn’t start that until they were each nearing the first year. Both were summer babies August/September and I started to give juice in July- heavily diluted. Mostly water and ice with a dab of juice.
I started with dinner and the solids. I then moved to lunch and breakfast. That was later though. I guess at about 9 months they each were getting 3 meals a day? Our son was faster than our daughter though.
This is just how we did it, what works for you may differ- but it sort of gives you an idea. Follow what you think your baby is asking for.
I started a sippy cup at the same time I started the veggies. I took the stopper out and gave them their cup to get the idea and then after a time, put the stopper in. It had breastmilk in it so they would understand the breastmilk comes from mommy and from a cup. It worked great and our oldest was off the bottle at 8 months, the youngest by 7. She is still nursing at 16 months old a few times a day.
Good luck and relax, this is easy stuff. Just listen to your baby and have fun!
Edit: WOW! Thank you MJ!
I wanted to add that you may want to invest in a small food processor. We have one for our baby to make our baby food. It’s really easy- just toss the food in, add a touch of butter or water, and blend. Both of mine loved it. I have a small Black and Decker and it’s definately earned it’s keep around here. Our 11 year old has autism and loved to make his sisters food- I’d give him what was going in and he’d blend.
You can use jar food too- but it’s expensive and when you make it
