Q&A–: How come my dog never plays with her toys?
We buy her all kinds of stuff from bones to balls so she won’t be bored. The only thing she plays with are some old bath toys I used to use. The are like 3 years old and I don’t like seeing her play with them. She plays with them every now and then but never her other toys. She only plays with her rawhides. She doesn’t look at those other toys twice. She has this thing for pencils though.

Dogs learn to play from each other. A dog that hasn’t had much socialization or attention may have to be taught how. It won’t be hard to teach your dog to play if you won’t mind acting a little silly! Dogs invite each other to play using body language. They bow, wiggle and bark. Try this with your dog: get down on your hands and knees or as close to her level as you can. Bend your elbows and lower your head, then bark! She’ll probably tip her head and look at you as though you’re nuts. Bounce up and down on your elbows a little and bark some more. Make it a “happy” bark, not a gruff one.

Dogs have their own personality and they like different things, because the toys you buy are new doesn’t mean your dog will like them. I wouldn’t let your dog chew on pencils because she might swallow bits of wood. If your pet isn’t playing with the toys she has, she isn’t really bored then. Right? I hope this helped.

Dogs don’t need ’stuff’ – they need interaction.

It sounds like she needs a friend, or some socialization.
Try signing up for an obedience course, and making some friends while you’re there. Perhaps she coudl sue a playdate, or even another dog in your household. Ask the trainer to help assess what her deal is.

Some dogs just don’t do the toy thing, and need other dogs to have a good time. She sounds a bit bored, and it also sounds like her tummy might be bothering her – eating things like pencils is often a sign of a gastric problem, or even a food allergy.

ANYWAYS, some dogs may not like toys. I have one dog who plays with his toy for the first 10 minutes, then gets bored. He, like your dog, loves other things such as knuckles or bully sticks. Rawhides ALMOST killed him, so try to stay away from them. Dont worry if the dog doesnt like toys, there is nothing wrong with that!

My dog, was never interested in toys, none of them. He always prefered taking naps and watching Tv, as funny as that sounds. But sometimes dogs just prefer bones to actual toys. But if you bought scented or flavored toys teh attraction would be imediate.

Lmao Jackie!

The toys need to be exciting, make it fun! Dogs can play on their own, but it’s not very exciting. If you don’t have time, buy a Kong and fill it with frozen PB or anything she loves, it will keep her entertained for ages! Dogs chew when bored, so just interact with her more and teach her how to play. However, some dogs just don’t have an interest in toys, if she is happy how she is, leave her be. :-)

I think part of the reason is, most people assume that dogs are universal creatures with all the same tastes for the same things. In other words, if dog toys are made for dogs, and I have a dog, then my dog MUST like all dog toys. But that’s not true. Just like children have unique tastes for various toys, so do animals. They aren’t that far off from ourselves. For instance, I remember as a kid, I used to like Barbies. However, I hated putting on “play” make-up or dressing up in my mother’s clothing. I had many friends who enjoyed that kind of thing (like most stereotypical little girls), but it just wasn’t my thing. My mother would buy me all the make-ups and junk to accessorize, but it ended up collecting dust. Point being, your dog is the same way. If she enjoys playing with certain toys like rawhide, then toss out the other ones and buy her rawhide. All in all, she’s letting you know what she wants. ;o)

Answer by snowflake311
That’s how my pepper is. Ever since she was young she never liked to play with toys just rawhide. She would rather chew and chase squirrels.

Some dogs just don’t like toys. Or they are picky about what they like.

toys –: How many toys should I get for my children?
Many as they want? Or just keep it few? I am not worry about the costs but I am worry about what best for children and their future. We all knows that toys is purpose to increase their intelligence skills. For children age a year? What about in next 10 years? Get many as I can? Or not?

Dont spoil them so dont buy them whatever they want if there happened to be something there very interested in and money isnt a problem help them do what they wanted and buy them stuff for what they want to do but dont get them everything or they will grow up expecting a lot and its just best not to get them everything.

Answer by August
just keep it few. you don’t want to clutter up their room and spoil them. if they’re spoiled at this age, they might try to take advantage when they’re older because they think they can get whatever they want. then it might get expensive and possibly dangerous. in one commercial I saw a few years ago there was this girl who was about 16 or 17 and her dad spoiled her. then one day she asked if she could have alcohol at her party and tried to bribe him.

Ladies no need to fight, im here to save the day!

you should probably get her a kong. its this toy with a hole and inside the hole is a treat and the dog tries to get the treat out. it keeps them really busy and not bored.

  3. Dogs have certain toys they like and ones they don’t care for. If he likes playing with the bath tub toys then let him. If you want to take time and work with him to get him to play with the balls and other toys then you need to show interest and get the new toys and take him outside or wherever and play with him. Give him some interaction. and attention. You might be surprized with the results.

  4. Dogs don’t need toys, but they are helpful as training aids. And if you use toys for play with your dog, the toys should be put away when you are done playing. Leaving toys laying around all the time makes the toys seem boring. You want the toy to represent something exciting, not just something she can have any time.

Put the rawhide in the trash- it’s dangerous. She could swallow a piece large enough to cause an obstruction and either death or a $2500 vet bill. The pencil thing does not sound good either.
