Mmm…English Steak and Kidney Pie
1 lb. beef round steak
1 beef kidney
1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
3 tbsp. lard or drippings
1 med. sized onion, chopped
1/4 c. chopped pimento
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 1/2 c. water
Pastry for 1 crust pie
Cut round steak in 3/4 to 1 inch cubes. Remove tubes and fat from kidney and cut in 3/4 to 1 inch cubes. Combine flour, salt and pepper. Dredge steak and kidney cubes in seasoned flour (reserving any extra flour) and brown in lard or drippings. Remove meat from frying pan. Add onion to drippings and cook over low heat until transparent. Pour off drippings, add pimento, Worcestershire sauce, thyme and water to onion in frying pan and bring to boil. Stir in browned meat cubes and any remaining seasoned flour. Invert 9 inch pie plate over pastry rolled to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut a circle about an inch from rim of plate for top crust. Cut a design in crust to allow steam to escape.
Cut a second circle about 3/4 to 1 inch from edge of top crust to provide pastry to circle edge of pie plate. Moisten edge of plate and top with outer circle of pastry, adjusting to fit. Turn meat mixture into pie plate and cover with top crust. Seal top pastry to edge and flute. Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 1 1/2 hours. Makes 6 servings…or 8000 servings for a sixteen month old child.

These stuffed peppers both look and taste good! Extra stuffing may be frozen and used within a couple months. Freeze baby portions in an ice cube tray, then convert to a airtight freezer bag. For a different spin, replace peppers with potato shells, and mix the stuffing with potato filling. Be sure to offer another vegetable with the meal.

toddlers like food that they can eat easily with their hands. try boiled noodles, for extra nutrition make them whole wheat or the plus ones that also have protein, serve them plain or with a little butter. Also try cubed cheese, cut the cube in half though, or in thin slices, use real cheese, not a processed cheese “product” steamed broccoli that is a little on the soft side and cooled is also a great finger food that surprisingly my kids loved!!!

Q&A–: my toddler does not like solid food how can encourage her to eat she’s also stuck to bottlefeeding.need advise?
i need advise on how or what type of food (including recipes)i should feed my 11/2yr old toddler that does not like eating solid food and refuses to let go bottlefeeding.
The following is the answer: (Hint: The answer is not necessarily.)
Answer by Wild Ginger
Who’s in charge here? My guess is that YOU refuse to let go of bottle feeding.
You are responsible for the nutrition of your child. Feed her a variety of wholesome healthy foods without a lot of sugar or junk. If she refuses, she doesn’t eat. It’s that simple. And she WILL eat.
Don’t start down a path of letting her dictate the menu to you or you’re in for years of power struggles that can even (in the extreme) lead to eating disorders down the line.
Answer by janandmar
Usually at this age there are at least one or two foods that they do like, maybe rice cereal or pears. Try mixing new flavors in with what they already like (veggies in the cereal) or try giving a new food before you offer the one they like. You can also try finger foods like Cheerios, cut up fruit, etc. Toddlers love independence and sometimes will be more willing to eat something if they can feed themselves.
As for the bottle, you may need to try a little tough love at this age. Get a sippy cup and put her next fluids in that. Talk enthusiastically about the sippy cup, show her the cute characters or animals on the side and tell her that she will use that instead of the bottle. She will not like the idea at first – maybe cry and throw a little tantrum but if she sees you are serious about “No more bottles” she will eventually come around. It just takes persistence.
At this age even though she can’t say many, if any, words she can understand a lot of what you are saying. Explaining things to her may seem silly but she may actually understand what you are saying and it can make things easier.
