You need to program based on each childs interests, needs and skills. Children learn from doing and experiencing so make sure you are open to spontaneous and emergent curriculum.

Set out a variety of resources to cover social/emotional/manipulative/ numeracy/ science/ discovery/ large movement/language etc. Any current Early learning text will give you examples of activities to cover these areas of the ‘whole child’

Teaching Strategies, Inc publishes the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos. The curriculum is based on theory and research in Child Development. The Curriculum addresses the routines and experiences of a toddler classroom. The routines of arrival/departure time, eating/mealtime, dressing, diapering/toileting, sleeping/nap time are addressed. The curriculum describes how to set up the environment and what the caregiver’s role is. The experiences include music, movement, outdoor play, playing with toys, sand/water, exploring food, creative arts, enjoying books, etc… The planning takes into account the toddlers interests and developmental skill level. Great resource for infant/toddler caregivers.

I would suggest taking a look at The Creative Curriculum for Preschool by Gryphon House Resource Books. The approach is environmentally based and it helps define the teachers role as well as connecting content, teaching and learning for preschool children.

Today was our last day at Azimio School. We visited classrooms, sang songs and played games with the students at the school. After lunch we went to the Updendo Children’s Home to bring formula and newborn diapers for the babies, spend time playing on their playground with the toddlers and tour their facilities, marveling at how self-sufficient they are with a working farm and vegetable garden.
