soy infant formula–: Freaking Out About Soy Infant Formula?
I fed soy based infant formula to my 2 sons on the advice of my doctor because they had difficulty digesting regular formula as well as lactose free formula. I have now just recently read that this may have greatly damaged their reproductive health as well as their ability to reach puberty. I am really worried about this and just feel sick that my sons will not go through puberty properly or will be infertile. Any advice.

Where did you read it and what data was it based on? The source often is more illuminating than the information, per se. Talk to your doctor about it if you’re really concerned.
I had a son who was allergic to milk until he got older, and who was unable to breastfeed. He got soy formula. I’m guessing whatever side effects there might be are still better than having left him to starve.

It is true that there are articles out there about this. Many people are still feeding it to their children. I wouldn’t worry to much about it. The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) still says that this formula can be used but it should be the last on the list. The AAP wouldn’t recommend using the formula is there was enough evidence. There are still many studies out.

Every child is different and my son who is 5 now has had nothing but soy based milk because of digestive problems. To me he is totally fine. He attends a bilingual school and speaks Spanish just as well and English. He appears to be growing just fine. I’m 5′8 and his dad is 6′0. I think he’s reg height but some say he’s tall for her age.

The jury is still out about the potential risks of soy formula. Obviously millions of babies have used it, and gone on to be healthy adults with normal reproductive systems, so you have not caused them to be infertile. If there is a risk, it’s clearly a fairly small one.
What’s done is done, so don’t beat yourself up over it.
