Just wondering if anyone had any neat ideas for snacks for toddlers that have vegetables in them or on something? My daughter COULD be doing better with veggies so hidden veggie treats would be great.

Thanks!
K–carrot cake has more carrots than you would think in it, depending how many to put in. Also, sweet potato fries are healthy, as long as baked. She doesn’t like salad or raw veggies as she chokes on a lot of that yet. So I’d rather have something hidden.
I actually have a corn muffin recipe that calls for a cup of carrots & a cup of zucchini. Plenty of veggies there :) Just haven’t done it yet.

Thank you for the ideas thus far.

Answer by ILoveMySon
Steamed veggies are great finger foods
Mix a bit of mixed veggies into mashed potatoes or rice

Answer by K Syrahツ
You can give her carrot cake without the frosting
Sweet potato fries
corn muffins
veggie burgers (veggies are usually ground up for those)
carrots with ranch dressing for dipping. kids love to dip.

V-8 makes a juice now with vegetables in it that tastes like fruit juice and gives a serving of veggies. Our daughter loves that.

EDIT: In the perfect world, kids will just eat veggies in their raw form, but unfortunately they don’t do that. Vegetables are an aquired taste over time. She asked for “hidden” suggestions, not in the raw. There is nothing wrong with the suggestions I made (K) There is such thing as “baked” sweet potato fries and my daughter loves them. Sweet potatoes are very healthy. And 1 serving of that V-8 Fusion juice will not overload her with sodium. Not all veggie burgers are soy and what’s wrong with soy? sigh…

Answer by K
Carrot cake has very little carrot in it; fries are fries; corn muffins have very little corn; veggie burgers are mostly grain or soy filler; V8 is absolutely loaded with salt…

Have you tried simply offering her a salad? Cut the lettuce into pieces no larger than 1cm square for easiest eating. I eat a salad with most meals and my 2.5yo feels entitled to her own salad, which is great.

She is also excited to eat whole peppers and tomatoes, and gnaw the florets off entire stalks of broccoli (”A BIG broccoli!” Very exciting, apparently), so don’t hesitate to mix up the formats a bit…

My son likes vegetables but I recently bought some zucchini pancakes (sort of like potato pancakes, but made with zucchini) that were really tasty and went over quite well.

Edited: She is my Sunshine just reminded me – steamed baby corn! Oh man, that is a huge favorite around here.

Answer by She is my Sunshine
Yeah, I would stay away from carrot cake and corn muffins as an attempt to give your child veggies.

My 16 month old does like when I cut up her veggies, if I give her a whole spear of asparagus or a while piece of broccoli she even giggles and says yay. She thinks she is big time then. Those little corns are great too. Experiment with light sauces. CHeese or even a light buttery sauce. Very light thoughl

I have a dinner idea that tastes great and has vegetables in it. Got it out of a magazine.

Meatloaf cupcakes.

I don’t remember how it was supposed to go but this is how we do it.

You will need mashed potatoes cooked however you cook them. My kids love it with garlic mashed potatoes.

Put 1 pound of lean hamburger in a bowl.

Mince 2 or 3 large carrots.

We use 1 small onion diced

1 to 2 cups of oatmeal

2 eggs.

Mix it together like you would a normal meatloaf. But instead of putting it a normal meatloaf pan put it into muffin pans. Cook for on 350 for about 45 minutes take them out and spoon the mashed potatoes over the meatloaf muffins. Put back in the oven for 15 minutes or so until done.

When you take them out you can put a few carrot slivers on the top.

My kids love it even my one son who claims to hate just about anything given to him.

Try nature’s path corn puffs. No salt, no sugar…..! nothing in it except the corn itself!! and they are GOOOD!! It tastes like popcorn but without butter & salt. You could do a lot of things with these, just use your imagination…

Answer by ~Liam’s mommy 2008~
Puree some veggies and mix with plain yogurt-top with pieces of fruit and granola
Scrambled egg with chopped up and sauteed spinach (Liam gobbles this up with no problem)
Veggie muffins like banana carrot muffins
Zucchini bread
Puree veggies and add to fruit smoothie (carrots, cucumber…something with a sweet flavor)
Add Cinnamon to sweet potato bites
Puree veggies and add to apple sauce
Mini grilled cheese with a thin slice of tomato melted into the cheese
Zucchini Chips dips in ranch or very mild salsa (depending on her age) Here is a recipe.
Ingredients
1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/4 cup (1 ounce) grated fresh Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons fat-free milk
2 1/2 cups (1/4-inch-thick) slices zucchini (about 2 small)
Cooking spray

Preheat oven to 425°. Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk. Place milk in a shallow bowl. Dip zucchini slices in milk, and dredge in breadcrumb mixture. Place coated slices on an ovenproof wire rack coated with cooking spray; place rack on a baking sheet. Bake at 425° for 30 minutes or until browned and crisp. Serve immediately.

Answer by Rhymes with Orange
My kids favorites (aged 5 & 7 but these have been their faves for years): baby carrots, sliced apples, yogurt cup or Gogurt, pretzels… and then there’s the usual crap (cookies, crackers, fruit rollups).

Answer by Heather B
gram crackers, gold fish, those things with the crackers and cheese or like the breadstick cracker ones with the cheese. apples, oranges, carrots, mini muffins, grapes. lots of things in the snacks in the store.

Answer by bells2599
Cheese cubes, yogurt, granola bars, miniature muffins, fruit, ants on a log (cut celery into 2-3 in pieces, fill with pnut butter, top w/chocolate chips or raisins). Just make sure that the solid items are bite sized cut so that the children will not choke.

My two year old loves yogurt and cottage cheese, cheese, and just about any kind of fruit out there. I use a melon baller for any type of melons and mangos. I use mini cookie cutters on kiwi, cheese, lunch meat and bread. I make mini snadwiches the same way.

Answer by Christina
I feed my kids cut up fruit, apples, pears in thin slices so they’re easy to eat, blueberries, cut up grapes, strawberries and bananas are their favorites. They also like pretzels, raisins, chewy granola bars, goldfish crackers, veggie chips, goldfish crackers, and smoothies made with milk, fruit and yogurt in the blender.
BTW, my kids are almost 2 so any of these things would probably be fine for your kids too. Just make sure you always keep an eye on them when they’re eating just in case they gag.

Answer by gnashhh
cut up carrots, grapes, apple, orange, cucumber etc

try and make them healthy.
you can also buy little snacks in the supermarket.
such as biscuits, bars etc

Answer by Natasha
Gerbers offers a variety of great snacks. Also, try yogurt, seedless grapes, cheerios, Teddy Graham cookies.

Answer by Micheal A
chips. dip. cookies, soda ( any kind ) try pizza with exra cheese

Answer by avonmom
I used to make my son a toddler trail mix with cheerios (multigrain are good for this), grips mini cheese crackers (they are smaller than a pencil eraser), raisins, and sometimes a few mini M&Ms. you can switch it out and maybe do small bits of dried tropical fruits instead of raisins and chex ceral instead of cheerios.

what about mini ritz crackers and small bits of diced lunchmeat and/or cheese? lunchables makes a lunchables Jr version with diced meat, crackers, and sliced cheese. it is just the right size for that age and come in 2-packs for like .30

make sure no foods contain too much sodium per serving or high fructose corn syrup!
