Q&A–: What is the best scene from Harry Potter to read to young children to show the magic of it?
I’m teaching 8 years old next week, and we’re doing a theme on halloween. For a music lesson, I need to read an extract from Harry Potter to them, and show them a video. What’s the most age appropriate video/extract to read/show them?

The following is the answer: (Hint: The reader is not the correct identification.)

Answer by Alex
I know you’re the teacher and not me, but that doesn’t sound much like a music lesson.
I would choose the bit at the beginning of the first movie when you see hogwarts for the first time.
That’s the only movie I saw and I never read the books so… yeah..

Answer by hannah elise
If you’re having a Halloween theme then the Halloween banquet scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a good one. The first two films are appropriate for under 12’s but I wouldn’t use any of the later films as they all get quite a bit darker.

Answer by PurpleFlames
definitely the end of the year when Dumbledore gives out extra points in the Philosopher’s Stone. Show how the banner’s magically changed from Slytherin to Gryffindor :)
OR you can show the Prisoner of Azkaban, how Hermione used a time turner :)

Answer by laura
I think you could show the part in the first one where they arrive at Hogwarts and cross on the boat or when they are about to eat and the food appears on the table.

There is no Music extract from Harry Potter, but if you want to show them something, then in the Extended version of Prisoner of Azkaban, the song ‘Terrible Trouble’ is sung by the Hogwarts choir, I say extended, because it’s the whole song in it!

Also, the Hogwarts school song is sung in the Goblet of Fire in the extended cut! :)

if you wanna do a real life scene, then the Halloween feast from book/movie 1!
you could take white thread and tie candles from the ceiling and make Pumpkin Pasties and Cauldron cakes and keep licorice wands and Butterbeer! :)

Also if you wanted to show them a scene, you could show them the Troll scene, i mean I know they are 8, but it is Halloween! :)

Answer by Owl In A Cloak
Harry Potter for a music lesson is probably not a good idea.

Answer by Rachel
Recently there was a program ‘The 100 Greatest Harry Potter Moments’ I agreed with it’s top answer as the first view of Hogwarts, this was a film clip from The Philosopher’s Stone.
But if you want a book extract I would say either The Philosopher’s Stone, Chapter 5, Diagon Alley (beginning page 49) because Harry has his first real glimpse of the wizarding world. Or, Chapter 7 The Sorting Hat, (beginning page 85) because it has Harry’s first experience of Hogwarts.

Answer by Neve Francis
i would say harry potter and the order of the pheonix, dumbeldor’s army with the patronus charm good luck and one more thing… EXPECTO PATRONUM!!!
