Q&A: Baby shows on TLC and Discovery channel?

Hi,my name is Anne,I did the following:
Q&A: Baby shows on TLC and Discovery channel?

i have always loved these shows. i have been watching them since before i was pregnant. now that i am pregnant and more educated about babies and pregnancy…i watch some of these show and i just cant believe how uneducated some of these parents seem to be! maybe its the cameras around or the adrenaline rush..or maybe not.

this one couple laid a 3 day old baby on the bed in nothing but a diaper and was wondering why it wouldn’t stop crying. well maybe because hes cold and would much rather be swaddled and warm…duh! this other couple bought so many useless gadgets that they probably wont ever use. they got a thing that you hold to the baby and it listens to their cry and it tells you what the baby wants. i bet they used it twice and never touched it again.

it just seems like some people on those shows don’t do any research before they buy stuff and don’t know much about having a baby. i have noticed this in the episodes of new parents and even parents that are on their 3rd child. have any of you noticed this?

Yes, definitely, but Im always more upset by how uninformed people are during their births on those shows. They almst always have a hospital birth with an epidural and often even a c-section! It disturbs me how much these things, especially the latter are normalized.

I agree some people don’t read or study as much as they should before having children, but nobody is a perfect parent.

Some people don’t have much experience with infants/children, so they are learning on the spot once they bring the baby home. But I think it’s safe to say that while these parents might have done some things that more experienced people wouldn’t have done, I’m sure their children are happy, healthy, and unharmed.

i know! bringing home baby “the first 36 hours” give me a break!!! these people have all kinds of people over during the day while the baby is asleep so the parents dont get any sleep and then when the baby is up all night they are exhausted- it is not that hard to get your rest when your baby sleeps and keep visitors at a minimum, my daughter came home on a 3 hour schedule i would change her feed her swaddle her hold her and put her down and she would sleep for the next 2 hours- this was the same around the clock even at night except maybe a little longer stretches at night.

they get home and say “wow its going to be different not having nurses here to help us” i just think that is stupid because when my daughter was born i changed every diaper and gave every feeding (she was in the nicu- so it wasn’t like i had her in my own private room either- i had a recliner that i would sleep in next to her crib and i only left her to go back to my room every four hours to check in with the nurses and receive my pain medication. but once we got home it was so much easier than what people on thosde shows make it out to be
