baby food cubes–: freezing home made baby food?
I am making my own baby food for my son who is days away from 4 months old!! I am a planner and would like to get a good start on it, but I don’t know how long I can keep things frozen for. Some info i have read says two months, some says six. All info comes from reputable sources. So, I just want to know how long I can freeze the frozen cubes of baby food in ziplock freezer bags for. Thanks!

as long as it’s air tight sealed then you can freeze it for as long as you like.

As long as it doesn’t look freezer burned when you take it out, you’re fine. Also, freeze it in a separate freezer or deep freeze, not a compartment of a fridge, so it doesn’t get exposed to constant temperature fluctuations.

Most sources that I have read, including nttp://www.wholesomebabyfood.com (a great resource if you don’t already use it) say that you can store food cubes for up to 3 months, but it is best to use them in the first month is possible. I found that, since you normally only introduce a new food every 3-4 days, it was easy enough just to make a batch of food every 3-4 days as I introduced them, w/o feeling like it took up too much time. Then I was set on that food for a couple of months. So you may not need to plan ahead as much as you think. That also allows you to keep a couple days of freshly pureed food around, which has a bit of a didfferent texture than frozen.

When dealing with babies, it usually good to use the most conservative estimate. HOwever, the food does not go _bad_ after the recommended time, it just begins to get freezerburn, like adult food was. This causes changes in taste and texture, and reduces the nutrients. But its not like it harms your child. So bascially pick a time interval you feel comfortable with based on what you have read. Also, the longer times (like 6 months) may have been based on a separate, stand-alone freezer vs one connencted to a fridge. Food is usually good for longer in a stand-alone freezer because the temperature is colder/more constant.
