never heard of this but ive always cut the nipple just a little

You shouldn’t give your baby food from a bottle at all. Not only is there a risk of choking but it will also interfere with the baby’s learning ability regarding tasting, chewing and swallowing food. Only serve baby food from a suitable dish/plate and use a weaning spoon suited to your baby’s age.

Answer by BB*Carson Elizabeth’s Mummy*
You can’t. Even if you can, this is disgustingly sloppy parenting.

Answer by Devon
always a good idea to use a spoon for your baby’s coordination and development…if you must, there is one at baby’s r us that is made by “boon”. you fill it and it slowly comes out of the spoon shaped mouth piece. you can find them on line. please don’t use a bottle.

Baby food does not belong in a bottle. It belongs in a bowl and is to be fed with a spoon only!

!!Good advice :Both parents should put the baby down for naps, feed her and change her. The more family resources she has, the more secure she will feel.
Question–: is it to soon to put baby food in a bottle for a one month child?
My baby is six weeks old today, i’m not getting much sleep at night. alot of people have told me to mix the formular with some baby food, or cereal, is it to soon for me to do that? they say its because she’s hungry the formular alone is not doing much for her. is that true?

Answer by Julie P
my sister did after 1 month with her first and 10 days with her third child.

Answer by mommy_2_liam
ITs too hard on their tummies…you should never put it in their bottles either. You need to talk to your Dr…see if you should be giving more formula/more often if it isn’t filling her up.

Answer by נєѕѕι¢α (ανα’ѕ мσмму)
You should NEVER put rice cereal in a babies bottle, unless directed by your doctor!
It does NOT help a baby sleep longer at night!
If she’s hungry, give her more formula.

Answer by Lillian K
doctors don’t usally advice putting cereal in the formula bottle. It could be gas that is hindering her sleeping. If she’s still hungery give her another bottle or a half one, make sure you burp her good.

Hi! At 6 weeks old, a baby has little or no ability to digest cereal or solids, so adding cereal is probably not a good idea at this point. It can cause some pretty bad constipation, as it doesn’t really move through their system well at this age. It can definitely take awhile to get into a sleeping routine with babies. My son was a couple months old when he finally let us sleep more than 4 hours at a time! Hang in there, I promise it will get better! Good Luck!

Your baby is being a normal baby, waking during the night.
It is never okay to put cereal in a baby’s bottle.
You need to get real about your expectations of motherhood – it very much involves less sleep.

“5 Reasons NOT to Put Cereal in Your Baby’s Bottle

#1. You can cause your child’s allergies. . .

While no one agrees completely on what it is that actually causes allergies, we do have enough research to see certain connections. One, very well documented connection to serious allergies is when a baby has been exposed to the allergen too early. Putting cereal in your baby’s bottle, even rice cereal, can cause allergies.

#2. Choking hazard

Some infants do not fully have their swallowing reflex fully developed at birth. Sucking cereal from a bottle can cause a choking hazard. . .and babies have actually died this way. Choking on cereal from a bottle certainly isn’t a common cause of death. . .but why do it when it is linked to something like choking?

#3. Digestive Issues

There is a connection between babies who have solids too early and digestive problems. The fact of the matter is that baby tummies are designed to take in breastmilk. When you can’t breastfeed, there’s formula which mimics breastmilk. Baby tummies are not designed to take in solids, and it’s not surprising that they malfunction when forced to do what they’re not designed to do.

#4. Obesity

One key factor in obesity is infant feeding. Infants are born with a self regulatory ability to take in only what they need. By feeding on demand and following a baby’s cues, you are essentially helping them form habits of eating when hungry and eating until they feel full. This sets them up for a lifetime of healthy eating habits. But when you add cereal to a bottle, it bypasses their system and essentially they take in more calories than they need.

#5. It Doesn’t Work!!!

There is no scientific evidence to support the notion that baby’s sleep better with cereal in their bottles. The truth is, babies are designed to wake frequently at night. Dealing with sleep deprivation is part of the parenting package.”

YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT ANYTHING BUT MILK IN HER BOTTLE!!!!

Answer by DaneInGA
Your baby is still too young for anything other than formula or breast milk. He/she simply doesn’t have the enzymes to break down food yet and the intestines still aren’t fully developed so you can actually end up doing more harm than good.

It is quite normal not to get a lot of sleep; however, since your child is formula fed it probably won’t be long before he/she will sleep through the night. I believe it usually is about 8-10 weeks, but don’t quote me on that because I breastfeed and am still up at night.

Just remember, it is only a phase :)

Answer by Betsy
Formula IS enough. At 6 weeks she will be havign a growth spurt and need more than usual to eat. It is an extremely rare 6 week old that does sleep through the night.

Answer by Boomstick
Your baby should not be given food until at least 3 months and more preferably not till after 4 months. Please don’t put food in the bottle! Rest assured the sleepless nights don’t last forever

  1. Mike, Kate, and baby Piper

no research shows that adding cereal to a bottle will not make them sleep more! it will not help at all and the possible side affects from doing this make it even more silly to even think about doing this. babies have whats known as open gut syndrome. this means that the “ingredients” can pass through there stomach wall because they are so thin and cause allergies later on in life. also, babies have to learn how to eat solids, its not a reflex. in fact babies have a natural reflex to push solids out with there tongue until they are about 4 months old, so if your putting cereal in a bottle you are pushing the nipple past her natural reflex to protect her from eating things she should’nt until her body can handle it. another possibilty could be choking from the formula being so thick with cereal. do you really want to risk it?

  2. no no no please dont do that its a choaking hazard. your baby is 6 weeks old- its normal for them to wake frequently through the night- its difficult but you will get through it, get as much rest as possible during the day and sleep when your baby sleeps. solids are too harsh on your baby and giving solids before 6 months increases the risks of food allergies, hayfever, general alergies in your child and also gives them a higher risk of obesity in later life. it also plays havoc with their imune system. i know its hard and you cant see an end to the sleepless nights but they will get better just hang in their for a while and dont be afraid to ask for help! good luckx

  3. you should never put anything but formula or breastmilk in a bottle.

if you did want to give rice cereal (and it’s not recommended before 6 months), you would need to give it with a spoon. babies can choke on rice cereal in a bottle.

givign solids doesn’t help a baby sleep better, anyway.

  4. Your baby’s sensitive digestive tract is not ready for solids just yet.

At her age, its normal for her to be up a lot and eating a lot. But for now formula is all her little system needs

  5. Your baby’s digestive tract has not developed enough for solid food. Consult your pediatrician concerning feeding, instead of Y/A.

Since you asked, I would like to point out that too many mothers take the easy way out and put solid food in a bottle along with formula because they don’t want the bother of spoon feeding cereal or fruit.

I had a neighbor that was doing that when her child was 7 months old.

I felt sorry for her baby.

  6. the doctors will tell u yes but many moms including me have started early .. well we started cereal at 2 months which has been effective & baby food a bit later, more around 3 months, but you are never soppose to put anything but formula/milk [liquid] in the bottle; it can give the baby bottle rot meaning their gums can rot. the doctor told me about it so be careful for your child. in our situation we started feeding the cereal by spoon and it takes awhile for them to catch on but keep at it, 4 months old & she eats perfectly off the spoon now =]

  7. Oh man I can already see the flack you will get for this question and I haven’t even read the posts yet.

Putting food in a bottle is a misconception and myth about making babies sleep thru the night.

Look you are a Mother now and babies tend to keep crazy hours. This is all a part of parenthood and you should not be trying to force your child into sleeping thru the night when they aren’t ready. You juts need to adjust your schedule and suck it up like everyone else.

Some people are fortunate and get more sleep and then there are others like me that didn’t get any descent sleep until my Daughter was close to 4. I would just have to sneak in naps when I could and have my husband take her to get some sleep.

Babies can choke on cereal in the bottle, their digestive systems aren’t ready for any kind of food until they are atleast 6 months of age and sometimes longer.

From everything I have read they say babies get everything they need from breastmilk or formula for that first year of life. Anything extra is juts that extra.

DO NOT DO IT! I say this very strongly. You will only wind up with a constipated- cranky baby that has digestive problems.

they say that giving them cereal in the bottle will help them sleep better throughout the night, ive tried it and shortly after that my daughter started sleeping through the night. i also tried it when she was around 6 weeks old, im saying, but IM NOT A DOCTOR OR A HEALTH CARE PROViDER but i would say its okay, just not alot. deffinately start with single grain infant cereal. and dont use any other kinds of baby foods other than infant cereal in her bottle. you may even try to give it to her with a spoon. but if she acts like she doesnt want it or anything like that, just stick to the formula for a few more weeks and then give it another try. right now, your baby only needs formula, once she gets to be about 6 or 7 months old, the formula will only be giving her half of the things she needs, but for now only formula is fine. go ahead and try giving her cereal, just observe what she does when you feed it to her. hope i helped. good luck. and congrats on your baby!

  9. i wouldn’t put it in there she’s too young. it could hurt her tummy.

  10. alexias mommy

That’s so dangerous, don’t do it, you will get sleep at some point, I didn’t until my daughter was 5 months old ( get any sleep that is ) and she is 7 and 1/2 months old now and she eats off a SPOON, I would never but baby food in a bottle, by the way, she just started solids last week.
