My daughter outgrew her newborn clothes in 3-4 weeks, she got too long for them.

My son was 9 pounds as well and went straight to 3 month sizes but I’d say it has more to do with his length because he can still wear newborn onesies (at one month old and probably over 10 pounds) so you should be all right.

my son was 8lb 2oz and only fit in them for 2 weeks..
i have bought all my onesies in 0-3months, and only bought a small handful of newborn clothes for this reason – though my little girl is expected to be quite small (7.5lbs maximum)

Both of my babies were around 7 and a half pounds and wore NB for 2 weeks and 0-3 for a few months.

My son fit into newborn till about a month old then one day I put the pants he came home in just to see if they fit and he looked like he was ready for a flood they were very short.

My daughter wore NB size for two months. But she is smaller than most even though she was full term. And she is 4 and a half months and can still wear 0-3 months clothes. But then again both her dad and I are rather small people ourselves. I am 5′4 and he is 5′5.

It depends on your baby’s starting weight and how fast she grows. If she’s born at an average or larger size and then grows at an average to fast rate, don’t expect her to be in the true newborn sizes (which I’ve generally seen to be up to 7-8lbs) for more than a few weeks. Remember that it is typical for babies to lose a bit of weight in the first week, and then be back to their birth weight at or before 2 weeks of age. She may be in the 0-3 month clothes for a while, though.
My son was 7lbs 14oz when he was born. He lost several ounces (as is typical), but very quickly started regaining the lost weight. He was in newborn-size onesies for the first 2 weeks, and then moved on to the 0-3’s, even though some of them are still a little big for him.
Thus, if you have a lot of newborn and 0-3’s, make sure to tell your friends/relatives to get you clothes for after that time period, so you can actually use them! (You will almost certainly get some more clothes as gifts after the baby is born – best to tell people now that you’re set for the first few months, but could probably use some clothes for 3-6 months or bigger.)
Hope that helps, congrats!

My daughter is 4 months this week, and was 7lb 13 oz at birth. 3-6 month Gerber onsies are already too small. 3-6 month sleepers, Carters, are just about too short and constricting. You really want to aim for 6 month stuff at a minimum I’ve learned. A little loose, and you’re okay. Too tight and baby is uncomfortable.
mine stayed for about a month or 2
My daughter was in premmie clothes for about 3 weeks ( she was 4lbs 11 oz at birth ) then she went into newborn clothes and was only in them for about a month.I just went through all her old clothes and there were so many she never got to wear with tags still on them, so i packed them up and gave them to charity. They grow so fast so don’t go to overboard with the clothes, i know it’s hard because they are all so cute but seriously they don’t stay in them for long..
goodluck and congrats
