Ya’ know, you kind of learn as you go along according to your child’s personality. Just like no two snowflakes are alike, no two toddlers are alike, so advice that would work for one, doesn’t work for the other. My husband and I have a 2 year old daughter (28 months) and she is our only, so I too am a first time mom and a stay at home one as well. The best advice I can give you, is ALWAYS make sure you know what they are doing at all times, especially when they are being quiet!! 9 times out of 10 the quietness means they are doing something they shouldn’t!! =) Also make sure at some point you take time for yourself, otherwise it will drive you crazy!! =) You will be running around, getting up and down out of the couch to get her things. We as moms NEED breaks in order to be the sane parents we are!! =) Toddler’s get into everything, but our daughter didn’t. She always plays quietly with her own toys and her own books. The last piece of advice is, don’t rush it!!!! I cannot believe how quickly our daughter is growing and some days I want the baby back in her… =( Enjoy your daughter!! You will be a great Mom to her as a tot, don’t you worry! The fact that you are worried about is a step in the right direction!!

Toddlers crave consistency and routines.
Don’t freak out over every knock and bump – there will be lots.
Toddlers like to make messes, try not to be neurotic about them.
Know you’re going to make mistakes…we all do.

I am also a first time mom. Being away from my families and friends, living in a different country, with different kinds of people, cultures and langguages, I have a lot of worriest too, on raising my child. I read a lot of books, surfing the nets, even attending seminars on Parenting and joining Mother and Baby’s Club to name a few. But I realize that the real key on “good” parenting is not on the books or what the experts say. I remember what my mother (rest in peace) always told me on parenting is to….”trust yourself”
Don’t take seriously all that the neighbors say. Don’t be overawed by what the expert say. Don’t be aftraid to trust your own common sense. Bringing up your child won’t be a complicated job if you take it easy, trust your instincts, and share concerns with your friends, family and doctor.
The more people have studied different methods of bringing up children, the more they have come to the conclusion that what good mothers and fathers instinctively feel like doing for their babies is usually the best after all. All parents do their best job when they have a natural, easy confidence in themselves. Better to relax and make few mistakes than to try too hard to be perfect. Children are driven from within themselves to grow, explore, experience, learn, and build relationship with other people. A lot of good parenting lies simply allowing yor child to go with these powerful drives. So while you are trusting yourself, remember also to trust your child. (Child Care by Robert Needlman)
Hope I helped.

i recommend you become an authoritative parent, this is a combination of control with warmth and love and responsiveness. meaning explain the rules clearly and allow children to explain themselves. there should be a 2 way communication. the effects of this parenting style have children who are self reliant, socially skilled, responsible, are going to good in school. you want to make sure the punishment is immediate, consistent, and informative. meaning you need to explain to them why they are being punished and how it can be avoided.

The page this ad links to is cute.
"Make sure your teen knows that everything ‘on the web’ isn’t necessarily legal."
"For example, if you catch your teen Instant Messaging (IM’ing) someone they don’t personally know, take computer, Blackberry, or cell phone privileges away for an extended period of time."
"Use text messaging to check in with your teen after school. If your teen has a camera phone, have him/her send a picture of where he/she is and who he/she is with. If he/she is supposed to be at a school football game, tell your teen to take a picture of him/herself with friends in the stands."
