Q&A: Newborn & infant clothes..HELP NEEDED?
I know that’s a repeated & boring question, but am expecting a baby girl in 10 days or so.. & I bought her 8 infant outfits(all footed bodysuits)since she’ll be a winter baby, plus 21 (0-3 months) different outfits..most of them two pieces.
Do you think this is too much for a newborn, Did i overdo clothes shoping for her? or is this just the norm??
P.S. my baby weighed 6lb 9 oz 10 days ago.. PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ help me…ASAP, cuz if it’s too much clothes.. gotta go return some back before i get into labor:)

I think you might have gone a little overboard since babies are not in the 0-3 month size for very long at all. I would trade some of the out fits in for the next two sizes up. If they are a little big at first, she will get a little extra wear out of them.
Good luck!!!

If they feel your baby is almost 7 pounds, your child may outgrow the smaller sizes quickly. You do have to remember they go through alot of clothes with poor diapers, and spitting up. When I had my son at home, I had him in sleepers when he was first born. When I took him out, I would put him in outfits.
If you have too many, you just sell them at your garage sale next year.

It all depends on the growth of your baby. My son was in preemies for 2 months, 0-3 until he was 5 months, 3-6 months until he was 8 months and 6-9 months until he was 12 months.
I would exchange some of the outfits (of the 21) for onesizes and sleepers. You could go through at least 2 a day of each if the diaper leaks or you have a messy eater/spit-up baby. You don’t want to be doing laundry every other day.
Congratulations & I hope you have an easy labor!!

I didn’t hardly ever use the 2 piece outfits except on family gatherings. They sleep all the time, and the footed jammies are sooooo easy. Searching for socks and booties is a pain…plus they always fall off. With 2 piece outfits, you have to have a onesie on anyway so their belly doesn’t get exposed.
I would have lots of onesies on hand in case of spit up, leaky diapers, etc.
And lots of blankies to swaddle her up, and a few cloth diapers for burping etc…

You probably only need 6 of the footed bodysuits in the newborn size if you are doing laundry every at least 2-3 days. Then get another 6 in the next size. The 21 outfits are too many, change that to 4-5 outfits of each size progressing from newborn on. Don’t cut any tags off of any outfits except for the ones that you are using immediately and save those receipts. That way you can still return or exchange them if the seasons change before she is able to wear them. Those ultrasound baby weights aren’t real accurate, but they do grow the fastest during the first 6 weeks and many babies cannot use 0-3 months after that.

First of all it is totally fun to buy baby clothes, especially for a girl, so it is no wonder you got a lot. You may want to exchange some of the 0-3 sizes for a bit larger. I have a 2 month old girl who has out grown most of her 0-3 already. You will want some larger sizes on hand because it can be surprising when one day nothing fits anymore. But also consider that you do go through a lot of clothes with a newborn due to spit up, leaky diapers, etc. and depending on how often you want to do laundry, you may want a lot of outfits. I hope everything goes well for you!!!!

Hi there our son Alexander was born 9lbs 15.5 oz we had bought 0-3 month baby clothes we never had a chance to use them i would defiantly exchange them for a bigger size 3-6 /6-9 months! baby’s are guaranteed to grow, lol . sleep suites are easy on if your tired and easy to change if your out and about and the little one has an accident,we also bought a lot of our baby clothes from the supermarkets they are hard wearing and good quality hope this helps! all the best with your baby!!

First of all…how do you know how much your baby weighs? The midwife will give you an estimated weight – usually this is wrong. My sister was told that her baby would be in excess of 9lbs…and her daughter was 6lbs!!
Secondly…depending on how much your baby does weigh when she’s born, she may well last in newborn clothes for some time. Babies are sick a lot and need changing a LOT during the first 2-3 months, so what you’ve got sounds about right. My daughter was in her 0-3 clothes until she was about 4-5 months old, so her things lasted ages, whereas some babies grow out of their “age stage” clothes really quickly. But if people do buy you clothes as a gift, try to ask for 3-6 or older clothes, as otherwise you’ll end up having far too many things. You tend to have favourite outfits and dress your baby in the same things frequently.

It’s a little much, but on the other hand, babies soil and spit up a lot so it is wise to always have extra changes of clothes. (Especially in the diaper bag when she goes somewhere.)

My baby was 6 lbs 11 oz at birth. She wore preemie clothes for at least 2-3 weeks.
She also mostly only wore onsies, very rarely did she wear “outfits” as comfort was my major concern, and its not like you take a newborn out a lot. She wore sleepers also, but when swaddling her she only needed the onsie (and she was swaddled for at least the first month)
Most of the “outfits” that people bought for her and that I had to have when walking through a baby store never got worn once.. many still have the tags on them.
I would say with my daughter I had 2 – 33 gallon tubs of 0-3 clothes before I had her.. we just went through and packed up clothes to store for baby #2 (if its a girl) and we cut it down to 1 -33 gallon tub and that includes the 10-15 preemie outfits/sleepers we bought because 0-3 didnt fit when she first came home. And even now.. looking into the tub I will probably only use HALF of that but I wanted to keep some of the clothes that baby #1 outgrew before being able to wear them.
To answer your question… IMO and experience…. yea 21 outfits is overboard
