My husband and I are separated. He is currently living with family with out a job a hour away. He was emotionally abusive and i couldn’t handle it anymore. I was wondering what the newborn visitation schedule looks like in N.C. i can’t stand the thought of my baby going overnight with him. He would take it to a bad living situation & I don’t want him to take her overnight period, not for a while at least.
Does anyone have experience with this in the state of N.C.? Is north Carolina a state that favors breast feeding mothers?

If you are breastfeeding they cannot remove the newborn from your care since the father does not have the right equipment to breastfeed the child. Too bad for him, but it’s all supervised and short visitation unless you stop nursing.
A judge cannot make you stop nursing just because of the father.

Q&A–: Question about newborn schedule?
My son’s almost 5 weeks old. Ever since he came home from the hospital he’s been doing really good about sleeping at night. He gets up about every 3 to 4 hours and will eat and then go right back to sleep. Some nights he’s actually gone 6 or 7 hours at a time but then some days I’ll notice he’ll go 4 hours and then wake up again in 3 hours and then again in 2. Is that just because it’s getting closer to morning? I was just wondering if I should keep him on a schedule – like putting him down around the same time every night or should I just be feeding him whenever he gets up? When will he sleep through the night (I know we can’t ever know but just with his sleep schedule right now I was just wondering what other people have experienced).

We never used a schedule of any sort. We follow our babies and what they want. They put themselves on a schedule and eventually, sleep all night long- on their own without our helping them.
As your baby grows, they will formula their own schedule- follow your baby’s lead. We have had a routine at night- bath, story, nursing, etc. But our babies both indicated when they were ready for bed for the night. We followed their lead and it’s worked.
Your baby is only 5 weeks old. He is doing a lot of growing right now- and he needs to eat when he wakes up. He will sleep through the night when he is developmentally ready to do so.

For his age, his sleep schedule is perfectly normal. You should definitely start a schedule for a set bedtime and time to get up, but he will still might need to eat during the night for a little while. My doctor suggested only providing about half of what a normal feeding would be during the night and then slowly cutting it back so that they get the majority of their feeding during the day. He also suggested a bigger feeding right before bedtime so that they will sleep longer on a full tummy.

Brayden did the same thing about waking up shorter periods between when it got closer to morning to so maybe your baby will do how he did.
We started a bed time routine. Bath, lotion, pjs, bottle and cuddles in a chair and bed. That was some time between 7-9 depending on when he ate last and how long he had been awake. Eventually he slepted longer and longer for the first time he woke up. Soon after his routine I think it clicked that this routine means bed time not nap time so he would sleep until 3 for the LONGEST and then up every hour or 2 after that until 8 and then that was his max, he was up for the day.
At about 9 weeks he slept until 5, we concidered this sleeping through the night.
I think some babies, including mine, thrive on routine. not schudule,,, routine. Give it a whirl with your baby and see how it goes. Its not immediate b/c remember they are babies but having the same thing every night will catch on and they love to know what to expect.

Same thing here. My daughter does the same she is really good with sleeping. People would ask am I getting sleep O YES I AM. I told the Dr and he said just don’t let her go over 4 hours without eating. Shes so good with sleeping sometimes I over sleep. But most of the time I am up around 4am because I am so used to it with my 1st.
I think you should feed the baby when he gets up because they still don’t know the difference from morning and night. and he are actually showing you that he is hungry. I think you should start a schedule when he is up most of the day and you have to give time for 2 naps and @ night most likely he would sleep well. Its your choice.
I think I would be doing it with my 2nd because I didn’t with my first and I never had a schedule. It was terrible. My second will be 2 months on the 7th

This young lady was discovered in the girls’ enclosure while feeding and cleaning, on December 9th. “Noel” (named for the season by @ChrisGroove1), was a day old at the most; her cord was still attached, and there were no babies seen during feeding and cleaning of the enclosure on the 8th. None of the lady-cats in the enclosure showed any interest in the kitten. No other kittens were found with this one. The baby was immediately moved inside the trailer due to weather, to be handraised until the mother “fesssed up” and could be moved inside the trailer with her. The mother has since been discovered – Nikeba’s messy tail gave her identity away – and has shown no interest in the kitten at all, nor did she have any milk let down. Noel is a full-sized, healthy, full-term newborn. Cats carry for nine weeks, and around that time was when the new enclosure was being built, and I was not home with the cats very much because I was helping in the construction. So, the sneaky sex would have easily slipped under the radar. We believe my Piglet, who would have come of age around that time and would not have been in quarantine with the other fertile males, is the daddy. We speculate that a combination of moving stress and first-time motherhood has led to the mother’s disinterest.
