Question–: Newborn twin schedule, help?
Im at my BF’s sister’s house, and she just brought her 2 days old twins home. We’ve both have been searching on the computer for a twin schedule online (IE: what a mom goes through with having newborn twins). We found one that said that she got up at 5am to take a shower, lol. We just want to find a few more, so we know what to look forward too in the future, plus to get some closure on how we’re going to get these little darlings on a feeding/naptime schedule. :]
Also included in the schedule we were trying to find one that shows what the mom does during the day, and what time she is able to do these during her break time
Only if you could see her face as she was reading that, it’s priceless!!
She is so afraid that she isn’t going to be able to shower. We are so sleep deprived at the moment, and it’s 1am here.

Schedule!??!?! hahahahahahhaah. That’s funny. At least for me, but maybe I didn’t do it right. My schedule was random, I learned to expect the unexpected and that sometimes things just wouldn’t go right. We were a wreck for about 6 weeks but I nursed them both and I’m sure that added to it all. What does the mom do? I did nothing but change, feed, etc etc all day. Sleep- didn’t really happen much and the boys woke up and different times. You aren’t going to find a schedule that works for you online…it’s something that will vary greatly w/ each mother and each CHILD as they adjust to each other and all you can really do is wait it out and find your own groove. It will happen.

My mother has twins and she breastfeed them she didnt have a schedual as such but started from when she got home to try and after a few weeks they were good they would wake one after another to be feed and were really good babies she even till this day and they are 11 now says they were the easiest out of all of us and there are 6 of us not including the twins, Good Luck. Mum would sleep when they slept for the first few weeks and once they settled she was back to doing the usual mother things

You can’t put 2 day old infants on schedules it’s impossible! Maybe when they are a few months old. They need to eat and sleep and poop so much that is all you will be doing. I’m a new mom to 6-week-old twins and I very very very rarely have any down time for myself. If I do it’s only a couple of minutes at a time. Which I usually use for trying to eat something or going to the bathroom. Showering only happens for me when my boyfriend or someone is home to watch them for me. The only thing she’s going to be doing for awhile is feeding, changing, rocking, cuddling and taking care of the babies. Best of luck!
And tell her it will get better but it will probably get worse first. When I brought my twins home they were so little and sleepy for the first couple days and I kept thinking this isn’t so bad. Then it was a nightmare for like three weeks. No sleep at all and constant crying. I thought it was never going to end. But you find what works for you and you get into the groove of things and it gets better.

Question–: At what age should you stop demand feeding and start putting your baby on a schedule?
My guy is 12 weeks old, and I was wondering when we should stop feeding him on demand (whenever he’s hungry or we think he’s hungry, etc..) and put him on a set schedule of when to eat.
He pretty much sleeps at night, going down between 7-8pm, waking up at 11pm-12am for a feeding, and then going back down till about 4-5am. I know newborns need calories and you can’t really put them on a schedule, but I’m just wondering at what point should you?

I guess I never really put my kids on a schedule. I let them set the times to eat. Around 6 months when they started on baby foods I offered the regular meals with nursing before and/or after and between times for naps and bedtime. (and middle of the night). It sounds like you little guy is off to a good start.

Your baby will likely fall into his own groove
A feeding schedule is a bad idea for babies or even toddlers, because they have frequent spurts and lulls in growth. Their eating and sleeping needs can change drastically.
Let your child listen to his body. Let him eat when he is hungry and stop when he is full. Forcing an eating schedule when they are still growing so much is problematic. Let him listen to his natural hunger cues, or you’ll be setting him up for under or over eating problems.
What may be the right ammount of food one week could easily end up being way too much or way too little the next.
Your child knows when they are hungry, and knows when they are full. They arent aware of the arbitrary eating times that we assign for ourselves. They live based on their bodies, not on the clock

Never put a baby on a schedule. There is no science that says that babies should be on a schedule. The reason that the schedule idea is even around in western culture is because of a bunch of male psychologists during the 1920’s and 1930’s who sat around and thought that kind of stuff up. Most of them weren’t even parents and they didn’t do any studies to come up with their information. They just published their ideas in books and it was naturally accepted at the time as fact. Mothers at the time believed it and when they became grandmas, they taught that information to their kids and so on. What the science today says is that babies should be fed when they are hungry. There are lots of studies to back this up. Because it is still not popular thinking, sometimes pediatricians are afraid to say that is is okay to feed your baby whenever he wants because they are worried you will think he or she is a bad doctor and switch to someone else. However, the traditional (before all those psychologists in the early 1900’s) method of feeding practiced for centuries all over the world is to feed your baby when he is hungry. Babies are really good at regulating their food intake. Trust in him. Forcing schedules can cause all sorts of problems physically and psychologically. It is very different that we live in a culture today that wants to conform babies to the grownup’s schedules.

Go by what your baby tells you. If he’s hungry feed him. I know the experts will tell you that it’s best to feed at certain intervals, take them off the bottle at a certain age, stop rocking them to sleep at a certain age, and so on and so on. And I suppose that works best for some. I was never one to listen to the experts however, and it didn’t harm my kids in any way or put them behind other kids their age who were on a schedule. I guess, it’s all about what works best for you and your baby. Congrats on the lil one! He’s adorable.. : )

Both my babies fell into a four hour schedule quite easily at 4 months. Of course there are times when your baby will be more or less hungry than other days and those circumstances should not be ignored. A schedule is a guideline, not a rule. The most wonderful thing about it is my babies were never crying in hunger because they recognized the pattern right away. Give it a try, it might work for you.

“At what age should you stop demand feeding and start putting your baby on a schedule?”
!
?
Never. Do you want to be a warden or a parent? How do people even come up with these ideas?
From my favourite authority on infant feeding, Dr Jack Newman:
“Far fewer feeding problems will occur if a relaxed approach to feeding is taken…”
http://www.naturalfamilyonline.com/go/index.php/268/supplementing-breastfed-baby/
“Be relaxed, feed the baby at your mealtimes…”

…though this is common sense, really. Offer your loved ones food and drink when they are hungry and thirsty; end of story.

OMG not at 12 weeks. feed your baby on demand they will tell you when they are hungry. i did it for my baby and she ate every 2 hours till she was 6 months old. you do what is best for your baby not what’s convient for you
Answer by EvansMommy
I don’t think I ever will.I am not on a feeding schedule. Why would I put my son on one?..I will continue to feed him when he is hungry.Schedules for feeding are ridiculous anyways because all babies are different. Some are hungrier than others & some don’t eat much at all..I wouldn’t bother with it.Just keep feeding on demand..

Babies can get into habits very quickly. Although I had 5 its hard to advise for a baby I dont know…but it seems you must be doing a good job (according to baby’s sleeping habits) so dont mess it up but worrying. you could try picking baby up , changing the nappy & putting her down again & see if she sleeps. Pour your love into her but dont talk. (stimulate) DO NOT WISH she will go back to sleep just know she will (& dont care if she doesnt at first)
The biggest learning for me was when I became a grandmother (all care no responsibility LOL) that babies sense experience & feel secure so they dont make same fusses they would to a tired, anxious Mum.
I have long said humans are like dogs, if you are afraid of them they will attack & these little mites do the same when Mum anxiously trys to work in cooking, cleaning, baby sleeping etc.
It passes soon enough.
All the best.
