newborn feeding schedule–: Do you keep track of the daily feeding schedule of your newborn?
My husband tells me that it is ‘crazy’ to keep track of our newborns eating habits. I only write down the time he ate and how much…is this odd to other moms and dads out there?

i do it, i write down when i feed him and how much so then i know roughly how much he is eating a day and when his next feed should roughly be due.
my partner used to pay me out about it to but he has finally gotten used to it now.

I was really neurotic about writing down the feeding schedule for the first month or so. I think it’s pretty common, but as long as you see your baby is growing healthily there’s no need. Next time around, I probably won’t keep strict records as I did this time, but I say if it makes you feel comfortable then do it! Good luck with your little one!

Answer by Indian
As long as baby is gaining weight satisfactorily, its a waste of time to be honest.

Answer by NewMommy
Oh not, it’s not odd at all. It helps you see what patterns the baby has – sleeping, eating, etc as they grow. Heck, my little one is 10 months old and I STILL do it! I know, I’m crazy but it helps me because there’s always so much going on in the day and I want to make sure I remember everything. Also, it helps my husband when I am out grocery shopping or somewhere else because if he has a question about her eating, etc, he can simply look at a previous day to see what her pattern was. Honestly, I can’t tell you how many times I have referred to it so to me, it’s worth the effort. You’re not alone!!!

I imagine I would if I used formula, but since I’ve demand fed, I haven’t bothered. They eat when they are hungry. If it makes you happy to write all this stuff down, then do it. If it makes you feel like you are going insane, stop.

Question–: A newborn sleeping/feeding schedule?
My daughter is, as of today, 2 weeks old. I keep reading that people are feeding their newborns every 3-4 hours and 90-120 mL at a time..how?
My princess wakes up every hour and a half or so, hungry, and after 40 mL she usually refuses to eat any more.
And I thought newborns could only handle about 30 mL in their stomach at a time…? I thought maybe perhaps burping was the answer, and I burp her quite often..but she still will only eat 40 mL at once. Sometimes, but not often, she will have about 70 mL..
Last night I had her on a 2 1/2 hour schedule..for all of 2 feedings. I believe she has colic (we’ll be seeing her doctor tomorrow) and at 5 AM she woke up screaming, so I tried feeding her, and since then, it’s back to every hour and a half, except for one 3 hour stint today (that, of course, occurred while her grandma was watching, lucky her lol).

My son was almost the same with your daughter feedings. I asked my pediatrician and she told me to feed the baby on demand. Feed her when she is hungry and stop when she doesn’t want anymore. Every baby is different, and it could be harmful to compare…since every baby is different…you don’t want to overfeed her because it might upset her stomach and she will cry all day.

I agree with the previous poster, feeding on demand is fine. You should see what your doctor says though and make sure she is getting the right amounts daily.

my 3mth old was 5wks preemie, and while there he wasnt eatingon his own so his had a tube through his nose to his tummy, the nurse would feed him 50mL every 3hrs, he was there for 2wks so when i brought him home i started exclusively breastfeeding him. well when i came back to work i didnt know how much to leave in bottles for him. i work nights so he only drinks a bottle or 2 while im gone. he’ll only drink about 90-100mL in one feeding, but sometimes he wont drink the whole thing. as long as shes gaining weight she should be fine. take her weight and times it by 2.5 and divide by 8 (cuz she should have 8 feeding per day) and thats how much she should be taking at each feeding
