But the best baby lotion is plain old olive oil—cheap, natural, and un-perfumed. As for other products, keep it as natural, organic, and fragrance-free as possible.
Question–: What are your experiences with making your own baby food?
I’m considering making my own baby food. We have a food processor. What else is necessary? Is it worth it or should we just buy the jarred foods? What are other people’s experiences?

I do both. Sometimes jarred food, sometimes I make my own. Depends how much time we have.

Home made baby food is better… I personally would not buy pre made baby food that has preservatives, salts/sugar added into it, at least if you made your own food you know what’s in the food already
I just don’t trust the food on the shelves…

Totally worth it, you know exactly whats in there & bub learns to appreciate ‘your families’ menu. Adjust the qty & texture to suit, always have ’something’ on hand, how hard is it to slide a few veggies aside, puree, mash etc & freeze! We used ice cube trays. Small portion sizes ideal for starting & once older good size to mix say 1 cube potato, 1 carrot etc.
We only used jars on the very rare occasion we were out unexpectedly at meal time. Id bring the jar home wash & store to use for our home made but ina takeaway jar for our next trip.

Hi, it’s well worth the effort of making your own baby food. It’s much healthier for one thing and tastier! Some of those jarred foods are revolting.
Make sure you never add salt or sugar.
Cook up a batch of something and freeze in little pots you can buy, with lids. BPA free.
Or in ice cube trays, which is good to start with for little tastes of things.
You can also mix things easier.
Introduce one thing at a time, gradually and so you can check your babies reaction to each thing.
Make sure things are properly defrosted. So take out the night before, ready for the next day.

I always made my babies food and loved doing it – it is much cheaper then jarred, you know exactly what is in it and above all it is made with love.
Initially babies eat only very small amounts so ice-cube trays make for great ‘freezing containers’ – pop out the next day and place in a zip-lock bag and put back in the freezer – they take seconds to defrost.
A good sieve is also handy – things like pumpkin, sweet potatoe etc go through a sieve very easily and if you are only doing 1 – 2 pieces then it saves on mess.
There are some great books on the market for ‘baby food ideas’
Annabelle Karmel The New Complete Baby & Toddler Meal Planner has some good ideas (although I found some of the combinations a little strange and also only used about 1/4 of the onion she put in her recipes) ~ Enjoy it really is great fun and feels so good knowing your baby is getting a good start in life!!

I’ve made avocado, apples. pears, bananas, squash, carrots, green beans, sweet potato, zucchini and more, the key is cooking it by steaming which keeps all of the nutrients, and use the juices left over for making it creamy.
avocado and banana are never to be cooked. Alot of fruits can be prepared without cooking, as long as they are ripe. After serving avocado to eliminate an allergy, try mixing it with apple or pear to make it taste yummy.
Here’s one recipe my daughter loves: 1 ripe banana, 1 ripe mango …puree with boiled water or breast-milk/ formula, but when baby is older, I use yogurt or cottage cheese instead of milk/water.
My experience with cooking pearled barley and rolled oats, and short grain brown rice, is you can grind it into a powder, and then cook it. But from experience, I found cooking it whole, and then processing it is much easier.
I was never too good at the meats, so I would buy those.
It is worth it, because YOU know exactly what goes in it, and your baby will get used to your cooking this way, you also know how fresh it is.

u r doing the right thing .. why give jarred foods with preservatives and all .. just leave those for emergency use when u r out of the house ..
and its otally worth it , inexpensive and convenient ..

My daughter is 7 months old and she’s been eating solids since 3 months. I have never bought a jar of baby food. I use fresh fruits and vegetables and she loves it. It’s easy to make, all the vitamins are retained, it hasn’t been sitting on a shelf forever, etc.
It takes 20 minutes or so out of your afternoon to make food that will last for days, but it’s worth it. There are a ton of recipes and idea online, Google them!
So far, she’s had:
Mango, banana, strawberries, watermelon, cauliflower, corn, peas, carrots, broccoli, avocado, pears, apples, potatoes, oranges, pineapple, kiwi, and I’m going to start her on some meats soon.

I made all of my son’s baby food. Saved so much money. We used 8oz containers to freeze our food and one night my hubby and I did the calculations and what cost us like 4$ in sweet potatoes equalled to over 50$ in jarred food. It was crazy. I used the website below..it tells you what food is what stage, how to make it, how to store it, what foods to combine…its great!
