I am wondering what type of education is needed for being a literacy teacher and/or a special education teacher? I am getting a bachelors now via online and know it is not really geared towards either of those disciplines. However, in MO we have an alternate certification program, would I be eligible? Thanks.

I can tell you about NY. You have to have 30 educational credits to be eligible for certification. You can do a major in education. Then you have to take and pass three tests (LAST, ATS-W, CST) to be certified.

Check with your state education department. Each state has different policies.
