Q&A: is it safe to use fabric softener on infant’s clothes?

My son is 4 months. I use Dreft to wash all of his clothes. I hate how much static and lint there is after washing and drying them without a dryer sheet. He never has had any skin sensitivity issues except that every now and then he gets dry patches. Is it safe to use a dryer sheet? Or should I just deal?

I use the same detergent and fabric softener for my daughter than I do for myself and she’s just fine. We use tide free and bounce dryer sheets

nah you can use a dryer sheet. we used to use perfume/dye free dryer sheets and detergent when my daughter was first born cause we were worried if she would have any sensitivities to the perfume…i couldn’t stand how the clothes smelled, i need my tide and bounce perfume smell, haha. so i switched over to the regular detergent and dryer sheets and we’ve never had any problems with her developing anything.

if your son doesn’t have sensitive skin, go for it, and if he develops something then just switch to dye and perfume free stuff, you don’t have to forgo the dryer sheets.

I would avoid using dryer sheets. They give ME a rash. All the dryer sheets do is coat the clothing with chemicals.

I use the same fabric softener and detergent for my son that I use on my clothes. I also use dryer sheets. It doesn’t bother him, and he has sensitive skin. He had really bad baby eczema when he was tiny (he’s 3 months old now, and eczema free!). At first, my husband was all ready to blame the detergent, but the eczema was on his face, neck, and hair…everywhere his clothes didn’t touch. So it was just dry skin from bathing him every day. For dry patches, use some baby lotion or balm. It works great for my son.

Add: Don’t ever use bleach on anything! Including blankets, towels, and crib sheets. When they get wet or he spits up, it can reactivate the bleach and burn his skin.

you can but be careful which ones you use incase he is allergic to them. Even if you are fine with them he may not be.

I use fabric softener on my son’s clothes.. I used to use Dreft as well without fabric softener but now I just use All Free & Clear detergent with Purex hypoallergenic fabric softener in Lilac & Lillies scent.. smells so good.

As long as it’s hypoallergenic you’re fine.

my daughter is a year old and two months i use the detergent i use plus fabric softener.
when she was younger i used only dreft but still used the softener.

does dreft make the fabric softener? if not they should

Answer by Lillians Mommy
We use dryer sheets for our clothes which makes them super soft so it irked me to not be able to do it for Lillis clothes. Then I found Method Baby Dryer Sheets. They are /40 but you can use each
