Is It Ok To Give Your Baby ‘baby Foods’ Before 4 Months Like It Says On The Pack?

12 January 2010

my baby girl is almost going through the night but because she is having littlle amount of milk through the night she is starving in the mornings, no matter how much milk she has she is not satisfied on just milk. she is 2 and 1/2 months ???

A:              Just wondering, but how many oz. is she taking now?
I know plenty of people who gave their babies food before they were 6 months and all of their children have turned out ok,but You can always add cereal to her bottles to help fill her up

A:             No! Wait until the ped says she is ready to eat. She must be the correct weight in order to add solids because if she isn’t drinking enough formula or bmilk yet, she won’t ever catch up. Eating during infancy is about shaping the palette and learning ‘how’ to eat. Infants get all the nutrition they need from bmilk and/or formula.
I would not add cereal to her bottles. Besides the risk of choking, it isn’t recommended due to the fact that we are to learn to eat our food instead of drinking it. You don’t want to mess up her intuitive eating abilities….

A:               I know that LOADS of people will disagree but my baby boy is 3 months and he is eating full jars now and they really satisfy his hunger! He has been on rusks and rice since 8 weeks-whatever you think will help his tummy be full! I know people will disagree, but you know best-my baby is really healthy

A:            Way to early~ Maybe you should wake her once during the night to eat! She is still so small to being going that long without eating! Plus, I don’t know if you are nursing but breast is disgested easy than formula so she needs to eat more often.

A:           I would not recommend. Call the doc and see if its ok to add cereal to the morning bottle.

A:               Way to early. wait till 4 months. If your breastfeeding it is normal for babies to feed more often because breast milk is not as heavy. I was concerned that my 2 1/2 month old wasn’t eating enough and my Dr said babies at this age can eat anywhere from 3 ounces to 8 ounces!! Also if you mix formula with breast milk it makes them less hungry so often. I would only do this though if your using formula and breast milk. Otherwise stick to breast milk only if you can!!

A:              If your baby is still hungry then try increasing the amount of breast milk/formula she is drinking. One reason may be that she is going through a growth spurt and just needs to eat more. Right now babies get hungry because they need the nutrition that comes from their breast milk/formula. Offering her solids will fill her up, but she won’t be getting the nutrition she needs. At this age it is best for her to just keep eating when ever she is hungry. Good luck.

A:               Your best bet is to talk to your pedi. Babies digestive systems aren’t developed enough to handle solids a lot of the time. Dependent on the size of your baby and how much milk she’s consuming, the age will differ, however, If you just want to do it to get her to sleep through the night, I wouldn’t.

A:           No it is not recomended. It is normal for a 2 and a half month baby to still get up for feeding in the middle of the night. My pedi said that the new age they recomend giving food to is when they are 5 months old instead of 4. I am not sure the reason for this. I would not do it

A:            It’s too early! And even with solid food she might wake up hungry again! She is just a baby, and she is just 2 and 1/2 months. Just give her the milk as often as she needs it

A:            my son started baby food at 2 and 1/2 months and we never had a problem. Just check with your doctor and make sure he/she approves of it

  1. No, it’s not even okay to give them to her at 4 months. The AAP recommends starting solids at 6 months to reduce the risks of allergies, diabetes, and obesity. http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/readyfo…
Why would you trust whoever is selling the food to know what’s good for your baby? They want your money as soon as possible.
Talk to your doctor about what’s going on, don’t just stuff her with less nutritious foods- breastmilk or formula will be better for her than solids. She’s very young, and still needs to eat often. Perhaps you need to add another feeding during the night.

  2. packet food tells you to feed before medical experts recommend cos then they get more money out of you for the extra few months.
Although some babies sleep through the night they may still need the extra milk to get them through – many mums wake their babies for a late feed. How much does she have for her last feed – maybe you need to give her more or make sure she takes whole feed and does not fall asleep.
2 1/2 months really is too early for food whatever others say – her digestive system is very immature and she can get all the nutirents she needs from her milk.
Please do not add anything to her milk like some will suggest – your priority needs to be to get her to drink extra milk.

  3. A baby should be 6 months AND able to fully sit up by them selfs 100% without ANY help!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. WAY TOO EARLY!!! Talk to your pediatrician. He may let you start on a little rice cereal but the chance of an allergy arising increases the earlier you start. Talk to the doc.

  5. No my son is 5 months and i ask his ped if he can have baby foods she advise me to wait ’till his 6 months to avoid allergy.and i follow what his ped told me what is it 1 month wait anyway.Try feeding him more, for my son i really never follow the feeding time like every 2 or 3 hours i feed him everytime his awake as long as he wants to eat .If your breastfeeding everytime you feed her she peed so she needs more food..way early their stomach is still too small..
