Q&A–: feeding schedule?
okay, I have a six year old, however, when she was an infant she had a problem that resulted in us putting her exclusively on baby food without formula, so I now have a new baby, and she is 4mths old, and when it comes to feeding, its basically as if i’m a first time parent because my first child had an abnormal eating problem, anyway..my question is, she is 4mths, and is ready to start eating solids…but how do I do it? what is the best to start her out on? she doesn’t like the cereal…so is it okay to start her out straight on fruits or vegetables? and do I do it at her normal feedings or before, or after? and how long before or after…and how much should I feed her the first time? basically what I need is someone who is stay at home with a baby to tell me how they’re feeding schedule goes, we are on a pretty routine schedule that she herself put herself on, its basically 5oz bottles every 4 hours, starting at 7am to 9pm being the last bottle. (she sleeps through the night) thanks

Your baby will need to start off slowly. The pediatrian recommends starting on fruits first. I fed my babies no more than 2 jars a day at first. (With each meal they would get a bottle along with the baby food.) One at breakfast, and one at dinner. I would give them more formula at lunch time. I didn’t want them to get constipated. Once they get used to the fruit, then you start them on vegetables. You should speak to your pediatrian, they can guide you. Also try gerber.com! Good luck to you! Now my youngest is 8 months, and she is on 3 stage 2 jars a day. (breakfast, lunch and dinner)

START OFF WITH vegetables
U GIVE HER THE SAME VEGETABLE FOR 2 DAYS TO MAKE SURE SHE NOT ALLEGIC
ONCE UR DONE WITH VEGETABLES GO TO FRUITS AGAIN THE SAME ONE FOR 2DAYS

ONCE YOUR DONE U CAN MIX AND MATCH

what a wonderful baby you have she already seems to have a good feeding routine going lucky you that’s the hard bit. I would usually start off with a baby porridge mix it with about 2 oz or 3 oz of her normal formula until its smooth and see how she goes with that breakfast then feed her the rest of her bottle or a least till she is full. then try a lunch i think the one i used is sunshine orange same thing with the formula and then maybe the porridge for her tea in the evening.you will soon get used to how much she needs and then progress on to different flavours and even your own veg and fruit mashed up.

make sure that you only try one new food for two days in a row, then you can see what she’s allergic to
if you feed her lots of new foods it might upset her stomach (because its so new) and she might be allergic to one of them but you wouldnt know what

First of all I am very suprised that no one has went on a rant about you feeding baby solids before 6 months. I personally started my daughter at 4 months also but usually these moms freak out about doing it early.

I dont know if you’ve already tried the cereal tricks but you can try mixing it with some Stage 1 fruit or maybe even a tad of baby juice just to give it flavor. My daughter didnt care for cereal either.

I disagree with starting with fruits. I think you are suppose to start with veggies so that baby doesnt get use to eating the sweeter foods. You pick a veggie and feed baby a few bites (however much she will eat). Then when she is done give her the usual bottle. Do that at lunch and then again as a snack later one or for dinner. Give her the same veggie for 2 or 3 days to make sure she tolerates it well. If you give her several and it makes her sick or have an allergic reaction then you cant tell which one did it. Then after 2 or 3 days start her on another. So on and So on. Once baby gets use to eating about an entire container then baby should be fed baby food or cereal 3 times a day. Like cereal for breakfast, followed by some formula. Veggie for lunch, followed by formula. Fruit for dinner, followed by formula. And then a regular bottle at any feeding in between. Its not really an exact science. You know your baby and just play around and see what works best for her. Goodluck.

Q&A–: What is your babies feeding schedule? I know most mothers wonder at some point “am I feeding my baby enough?”?
Here is my daughters schedule. Does it seem normal?

Wakes around 6am
Breastfeed between then and 7am

Between about 8am she eats a few TBS infant cereal. (occassionally adds some yogurt to breaskfast for a “breakfast treat”)

Breastfeed around 9-9:30 for nap

Breastfeed again around 11-11:30

Lunch usually at noon consists of 1 whole jar of stage 2 veggies or 1/2 jar of stage 3 veggies or veggie/chicken combo! (good 3 oz. or so). (Also give some cheerios, toast, or Gerber puffs with lunch because she likes to feed herself each meal)

Breastfeed around 2pm for nap time

Breastfeed around 5pm

Suppliment 4-8oz. formula between now and dinner, sometimes she will not take it at all though. Somedays…she sucks it right down! Somedays she demands her sippy cup, somedays she wants her bottle, but usually the sippy is preferred

Breastfeed last time at 8:45 for bed

BUT DOES WAKE ABOUT EVERY COUPLE OF NIGHTS FOR 1 NIGHT FEEDING

Does this seem like a normal feeding schedule for an 8 month baby!?
What is your babies age and feeding schedule? I am anxious to see more babies feedings. THANKS TO ALL!
Forgot to add her 6:30 feeding (which is usually dinner with us) she has a few more TBS of infant cereal and usually a sippy with water or very diluted juice.

Sounds like she is doing good…why are you supplementing with formula? why not just nurse her at that time? she sounds like she getting plenty to eat
