I Have A Disabled Child That Was Denied An Education, No One Will Help Me To Fight For His Rights What Do I Do?
I have tried to get someone to help me but I can’t get any help what do I do? This makes 2 years now that he was denied an education, the school district told me it was because they didn’t have the programs to deal with a blind child. Does any one out there have any help for me?

A:
If your school does not have programs for a blind child, you can request that they pay for him to go to a school for blind children or they have to train and have someone there to teach him. Have you gotten in touch with the “powers that be” from your local state. I’m from Texas and here they are the TEA – Texas Education Agency. Most schools here don’t want them involved because they can be reprimanded by them and they can also force them to give your child compensatory services for the 2 years that he has not gotten a Free Appropriate Public Education. Have you gotten in touch with an advocacy lawyer or organization? I’m not sure if they have an office in your state, but here there’s an organization called Advocacy Inc.
A:
I have some information but it would help greatly if you could tell me what state you are in. You need to call your state’s office for civil rights, find an advocacy group, and a lawyer who specializes in the education of children with disabilities. The school under federal law and IDEA cannot, EVER, deny your child an education. If they do not have an appropriate program then they HAVE to send your child somewhere that does. My son as a genius IQ but also has Asperger’s and was unable to do well in a regular education classroom. The school is paying for him to attend a program at a local private school that specializes in these types of children. There is help for you out there, you just have to find it.
Good Luck and let me know how things go for you!
A:
Look in your Yellow Pages or Dex under Social Services for any and all organizations that help the blind. Call ALL of them, and state your case. Your child has a RIGHT to an education, but you may need to get several different organizations behind you to achieve this. Keep at it until you get what your son has a right to. If necessary, call your local TV stations and tell them your story … sometimes just a ‘threat to do a story’ by a TV news station will get someone to do something ‘positive’ for someone who can’t get help any other way. Good luck, I’ll be praying for you and your son.
A:
They sometimes have schools that will work with the blind. You should look up on google, and see if there is a private school that will help with this.
A:
what country are you in
that should not happen in the US
a child who is blind can be in a regular class with accommodations and be given supplemental services (braille instruction/orientation and mobility instruction) from the state office for the blind
A:
This is illegal. Have they ever heard of No Child Left Behind? You should take this to the board and if they dont listen take it to higher power. Your child deserves the same education as every other child. Fight for your childs rights. Good luck!
