It sounds like you are already on the right track. With both of my children I gave them baby food and formula until they were a year old. Then I moved them to table food and whole milk. When I say table food, I mean oatmeal, yogurt, macaroni and cheese, diced banana, soft buttered toast, etc. As always, check with your doctor before starting table food and milk. Good luck!

wel, kiddo, I have had lots of kids. What i have found out is what does the baby need? What will they enjoy? What will they be able to handle? It's kind of a trial basis thing, you just try it out. suppose you are at the table and you are having a meal...the baby is in the high chair and is grabbing at or tword the table..(they "smell" what you are eating too!) so, you give them a "taste"(a dip on your finger) never a "bite", they might choke, and in this way, they are getting some of what you have too. Makes them feel good! "whipped potatoes with some formula or milk and a touch of gravy," this goes over with babies like you wouldn't believe! or water them down with milk and add baby cerial to them and let them eat with you at the same time..."tastes" never chunks, "tastes only" and it's so cool to watch them! And of course, my favorite,"Ducth Apple Treat" us dads you know.... we can't live without the good stuff either! ....enjoy sll of your "firsts" with your baby, they will only happen "once!" lol...
