How much liquid should a breastfeeding mother be drinking a day? Or does it not matter?

Sorry for the breastfeeding questions. But this is my first time doing really well breastfeeding and I want to be able to keep it up. This is not intended to put down formula feeding mothers.

How much liquid should a breastfeeding mom be taking in? And does they type of liquid matter?

At least 3 quarts a day. Water is the most recommended, but any liquid is okay (just don’t drink too much caffeine (tea, coffee, soda, etc) since it passes to baby and can be dehydrating for you).
A good rule of thumb is to drink a glass of something every time you nurse, that way you’re sure to come pretty close to what you need to be drinking daily.

I have read that you should drink to your thirst and that should be fine. If you over drink or under drink fluids it can effect your milk supply. Just try to listen to your body. Our bodies have a marvelous way of getting it right despite our best efforts!
