How Many Ounces Of Formula Should A 6 Mo Old Baby Boy Be Eating Along With Cereal And Baby Foods?

30 December 2009

Babies know when they are done eating. Feed them a little bit of cereal and or food first. Then when they are done offer the bottle…they will drink till full. Do not force any food or milk on them. If they dont like a certain food then stop then try it in a few days. Hope this is helpful.

  1. My daughter’s pediatrician smirked when I asked a question similar to yours. He made a remark about women in biblical times not having anything to measure a baby’s caloric intake, and we are all doing just fine. He said, women have fed their babies the same way for centuries-til the baby won’t eat any more. He thinks he’s funny. He did say that if we were worried about her getting the proper amount of nutrition that there’s a simple formula.
Convert baby’s weight into kilograms.(You can do this by doing a web search for kilogram. It should pull up a converter so you can be sure that you don’t goof up.)
    1 kg=2.2lbs
once weight is converted to kgs, they need 110 calories per kg per day
for example: if your baby weighs 15lbs
    (divide) 2.2
    your baby weighs 6.8kg
    so if it needs 110 calories/kg/day -
    110cal x 6.8kg=748calories per day
(If you baby is still drinking formula, it should tell how many calories per ounce it has in it. Similac has 20 cal./oz. ) Just divide the number of calories your baby needs per day by how many cal/oz in the formula. This result will tell you how many oz of that particular formula to feed a day. Be sure to consider the calories in the baby food and cereal.
If your son isn’t getting the correct number of calories per day from formula alone, the cereal & baby foods will have the caloric value on them. I hope this helps you,and I promise, I won’t smirk at you!

  2. My son was eating 8 ounces of formula every 4 hrs during the day. He was just starting on solids. I would try to give him some cereal with a fruit baby food in the morning. I would try to give him a veggie at lunch and then a veggie or fruit at dinner. At this point he was still learning to eat solids so, he didn’t eat very much. It takes them a little while to get used to it. Then they will start drinking a little less formula, but even at 12 months my son still wants his formula every 5 hrs or so, but does sleep through the night.

  3. My daughter eats a 7oz bottle when she wakes up, for lunch she eats a 6oz bottle and a jar of food, snack 7oz bottle, dinner oatmeal and 6oz bottle and then bed time she’ll take a 8-10oz bottle, depends on the day. All babies are different though, I give fresh fruits and veggies to her sometimes, so that changes how much she eats bottle wise.
