Question–: My 2 year old is a picky eater and wants to eat the same thing everyday, anyone have any fun food ideas?
My son always asks for chicken, pizza, or cereal. I try my best to get him into other things. Nothing seems to catch his attention. I’d like him to eat other kinds of meats. I’ve tried everything I can think of. Does anyone have any fun foods for kids?

finger foods are always great for kids….or mac & cheese. if you want him to eat other things-then don’t give him a choice-he’s 2 and you’re not a short order cook. of course there’s always the fun ‘tricking’ method-wrap chicken around something like veggies or put a different type of meat on the pizza.

My mother in law told my daughter that the grilled fish were eating was chicken. She loved it!
We got her to eat things by putting it on the fork or spoon and telling her that it was mom’s bite of food or grandmas (anyone’s name works) and not to eat it.
She’d pick it right up and put it in her mouth, regardless of what it was!!
It was a fun little game and we still sometimes do it just for fun.

I know how you feel. My daughter will be 3 this month and she a picky eater. All she wants is chicken and fies. But we have talked her into eat different things here lately. Like she likes deer meat, so we will tell her that what ever kind of meat it is we are having, we tell her that is is deer meat and she will eat it. She always asks me what i am eating and when I tell her she says I don’t like it. We have started playing a few games. Like if it is green beans we make letters, we also tell her if she will try it we will give her some kind of candy after she eats. That has worked great. Good Luck

just make sure you offer him different foods all the time- he will try them eventually. my son always liked eating anything i did- off of my plate! alot of times he would only eat things if they were “mine.” maybe he just likes things to be ‘his idea’ give him a choice of 2 different foods. if he can understand, tell him he has to have 3 bites of something new before he can have is favorite pizza, chicken or cereal. most times you can get even little ones to compromise a little!
i think as long as you offer new and different foods he will be fine- 2 year olds grow up and don’t stay as insistent as they are now:)

I would cut cucumber into slices and call it “vegetable cookies.” My kids thought they were getting away with having cookies with dinner.

My son did the same thing at 2 years old…its a phase. It will pass….just try to help him understand trying new things to eat is fun.

You have to just offer them to him, he will eat if he is hungry he will not starve. This is how I got my daughters to not be picky. I gave them foods even ones they claimed not to like, you need to have a child try something 8-10 times before it can be said they don’t like it. We also have a rule at our table, you must try everything on your plate.

Yes, 2 year old eaters are not easy. I found that we really push, “try it” with everything, eating, playing on playground, somersaults, blocks, everything fun and not so fun too. That encourages at least a try. And if after trying, they say “i dont like it” then I follow with a “OK maybe next time you will like it.” They definitely are more apt to try something if it is something you are eating and saying how yummy it is. Or if they have helped to prepare it. Especially veggies, have them help with the prep and they are more apt to say yes to “trying it”.
Oh and don’t forget, kids don’t grind foods well until they are about 4 years old, even if they have their molars. So some foods like steak, will be near impossible to eat at 2.
good luck

You are the parent, and you can train his palett. He will scream and demand junk, but he will eventually go hungry and eat what you serve him. He is not withering away, this is the us.
Tell him what a big boy he is for trying, and have him show his muscles for being a big boy like daddy. 2 bites because he is 2.

I understand your concern. I have two children. 1 1/2 and almost 3. My daughter (the 3 year old) will eat ALMOST anything…her favorite snack include olives, lettuce, lunch meat, cheese, and celery. My son on the other hand, is such a picky eater. One week we had hot dogs and he hate 2 of them! (which I thought was a lot of his age). The next week I tried giving them to him and he threw them all over the floor!
Keep experimenting…my son likes the oddest things. Zucchini and Eggplant seemed to go over real well with him.
At least your son is asking for pizza…that is nice for variety. One day put mushrooms and hamburger on it, the next day sausage and bell peppers (whatever)…then at least he is getting his veggies and meat with it.
I would also go with the other ideas and “lie” to your kid about what he is eating. Tell him everything is chicken…my mom used to tell me everything was apple pie, and she said it worked great! (Until Grandma gave me real apple pie)

!!Reminded :It’s very easy to get sucked into the constant advertising of baby powders, creams, and lotions. But the best baby lotion is plain old olive oil—cheap, natural, and un-perfumed. As for other products, keep it as natural, organic, and fragrance-free as possible.

This is not the typical food stuff in my home, but today I have felt really inspired by my son Oli. He is usually quite a handful and his behaviour is most times quite challenging, but today he’s been such a pleasure to be with, it has just been one of those easy, happy, fun filled days… hoping for more days like this ![]()
