Question–: Fun recipes and ideas for kids?
I have four girls..they are going on 2,3,5,7 years old.
I find that when I make up fun names for foods, they will try them and like them, but if I don’t, they whine and cry that they hate it and they are going to puke…
Okay, I have put together a new rule chart with rewards for our home, this has been up for a week with great progress.
They have to try everything they are given and at the end of the day, they put a magnet by their name. When they get so many magnets, they get one special privelage.
What I want to do, though is make mealtime mor fun for them. Any ideas for fun recipes and names for food that kids would find fun/funny would be appreciated.

Thanks all!

Thumbs up to everyone.

Get them involved with the cooking such as setting the table, cutting the items with a non dangerous cutting pastic knife 5 yrs and up only for this one, measuring the ingredients, and of course hold a food tasting contest.

Check out the Canadian Parents website message board they have great recipes and ideas for children.

Have a great time with your girls, precious memories;)

I tried this with my nieces and nephews. You can use pilsbury dough biscuits and let them flatten a couple of them. Then use all the fixings you would for a pizza, but they would be small so they can have a couple of differnt ones. It’s fun and you don’t have to get stuck with one you hate:)

Cool Apple-Oat Muesli
Recipe #231853
You’ll be surprised at how pleasant it is to eat your oatmeal uncooked in this way. It’s easy, satisfying and refreshing, especially on a hot summer morning.
by White Rose Child | Edit…My Notes

1 servings 1 bowlful ½ day 10 min prep
Change to: bowlful US Metric
1/3 cup steel cut oats
1 cup water
3 tablespoons raisins (I use thompson or lexia- just make sure they’re seedless!)
1 medium apple, cored and cut in half
1/4 cup apple juice (a high-quality, unpasturized variety is best)
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon coconut, medium-shred
1 tablespoon cashews or almonds or walnuts or other nuts, of your choice

Soak the oats and raisens in the water overnight, covered.
In the morning, drain off and RESERVE the water. Use a wire-mesh colander for this. Hold it right next to the oats’ bowl and drain carefully so they don’t all end up in the colander. It’s rather annoying trying to scrape them out of the mesh!
Transfer the oats and raisens to a food processor (if you have a mini processor, use it!). After coarsely chopping half the apple -for easier blending- add it to the processor.
Add the juice, cinnamon and a pinch or two of nutmeg, plus about 3 Tbsp of the soaking liquid. Blend on a low or medium setting for about 10 seconds. Then check it; it should be fairly smooth but not liquified. Add 1-2 Tbsp more soaking liquid to thin as desired.
Pour everything into a bowl, dice the rest of the apple and stir inches Top with coconut and nuts as desired.
NOTE: For a more manageable bowlful (this much is very filling) reduce the oats to 1/4 cup and slightly reduce everything else.

aww that’s so cool. well first of all you could get cookie cutters and make ordinary foods like pancakes, waffles, hamburgers innto fun little shapes. also for breakfast, try “green eggs and ham”…..when you cook the fried egg just put a drop or two of green food coloring in the yolk. and i don’t know encourage them to help you and have fun with you in the kitchen.

if you go to kraftfoods.com and you look on the left side where you can search and it says ‘’search by meal occasion” and go down to ”especially for kids,” they give really good and easy recipes. ♥ i hope this helps! =)

When they behave at the table, let them make a funny face dessert – nttp://www.kraftfoods.com/main.aspx?s=recipe&m=recipe/knet_recipe_display&recipe_id=57521 – if one gets to make it and the others don’t, they will soon learn. :)

Try pigs in a blanket or make pancakes with blueberrys as a face. There are plenty of things you can do with ordinary ingredients. My husband has gotten my kids to eat cheese by putting it on toast with peanut butter and jelly and bacon. I know it sounds horrible but they eat it up. It’s called “Daddy’s man sandwich” They love it! Have fun! Kids are wonderful =)!

Try the inside out burgers there easy and the kids can help. Make two skinny patties and put cheese, bacon, pineapples, etc what ever you like in the middle, take the other pattie and put on top making sure to bind the ends well and make the hamburgers on the grill. Kids love the grill and they help make there own creations. I love the burgers to have blue cheese and bacon in the inside and grill pineapples and red onions on top.

Cheetos, graduate puffs, depends on how old the kids are.
deli meat, cheese rolled up, hot dogs, chips and dip, pig in a blanket (hot dog with a biscuit rolled around it), macaroni and cheese. Just a few ideas.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, use a cookie cutter matching the theme to cut the center out. You can also try flour tortilla roll-ups. Make a mixture of some kind and fill the tortilla, chill it and slice or just let eat whole.
Make a cereal mix, using unsugary cereal. You can also consider ravioli’s.
