Question–: What are some good 1st finger foods for babies that are easy to eat?
My daughter is 10 months old and is starting to spit out her pureed baby food all the time. She seems to be much more interested in feeding herself. She likes the Gerber Graduates puffs and yogurt melts, although she sometimes spits those out too, but they aren’t enough for a well rounded meal.
My main concern is that she only has 2 small stubs for teeth and she easily chokes and gags on her food (even the puffs that melt in your mouth). She has even gagged so much that she threw up in the car although the food was on the side of her tongue not in the back of her throat so she wasn’t truely choking. I feel so nervous and don’t know what kinds of foods to offer her that will be easy for her to eat at this point. Thanks for any suggestions.

You could try cheese, just mash it in your fingers first or you could try graham crackers or saltine crackers. My son loves those, they suck on them and they get really soft.

banana is good as it is very soft and also i gave grated cheese. you can buy baby crips and baby crackers that are designed to dissolve quickly, you’ll find them down the baby food isle. also very ripe mango is very good also.

you can get this great little device that looks like a dummy (but bigger) with net for the teat, you can put slices of apple ect. in the net so baby can chew on eat, without worrying about them choking. Its by a company called Nuby and called a nibbler. I used to give mine buttered toast (so in breaks up easy) banana, rusks, basically things that almost dissolve in their mouth. All the best xx
Answer by Aubree’s Momma♥
First off, she should not be eating in the car ; nor even having a bottle while in the car. That is SO dangerous!
Personally ; it sounds like she is not ready for finger foods. If she is choking or gagging when eating them, then she is not ready!
Aubree has just her two bottom teeth and eats things like ; green beans, mac & cheese, stuffing, pieces of soft fresh fruit (banana, pear, peach..etc), puffs, yogurt melts, peas. Those are just a list of finger foods. She eats many other ‘adult’ foods but is spoon fed those foods.

Banana, very ripe peaches, kiwi, watermelon, raspberries
Steamed until soft carrots, green beans, peas. Cut potatoes into slices and boil them for a few minutes. Not until soft to mash, just until slightly tender. Then bake them for 7-10 minutes. They are like french fries but much more healthy!
Noodles with different sauces (mac n cheese, spaghetti sauce, gravy)

You could put them in rows on large/over sized plates. I’m not sure what color they are, white always looks great but if they are beige/brown then maybe a color to make them pop. You could put them in cupcake holders to also add more color. there are tired display stands (which you can make your self: place a large plate on the bottom, on top of that in the middle place an upside down teacup/cup/bowl, on top of that place a smaller plate) you could have 2 tiers or add a third. place the different cookies/treats around those plates. this is a nice idea if you are serving everything on a table since it will create some high.
