Day two with Nana. We went to the vet for her first round of vaccinations. Dr. Martinez estimated that she is closer to 12 weeks old (instead of the suspected 8), based on her weight of 3 pounds.
After her visit, we went to Petsmart to return the unopened bag of dry food I’d bought the day before. I have decided to feed her canned food, after reading Feeding Your Cat: Know the Basics of Feline Nutrition on catinfo.org. I’ve selected the grain-free Wellness Kitten Formula. (Until my online order arrives, she’s eating some not-as-good-but-okay-for-now canned food by Science Diet. I couldn’t find any grain-free kitten formulas at the pet store… Only one grain-free brand and it was for adult cats.)
After the store, we met up with Matt on his dinner break. They are best friends, naturally.

I’ve been thinking of transitioning to a raw meat diet for the kitties. I think if done right (that is, buying in bulk) it can be cheaper than canned (and we currently have 5 cats in the house, so savings add up quick). We switched back to dry food after the cat food scare a while ago.
Where did you order the food from? It’s annoying the lack of good cat foods in this area.
We’re still looking for home for 5th kitty- one of our other cats does NOT like him and has been causing all kinds of trouble.
Kittens are so irresistible.
Karin, I ordered my food from The Hungry Puppy (dot com). It was the cheapest of the online providers, for the Wellness kitten formula I wanted. I ordered a month and a half supply, because the shipping per can was less that way… It’ll average $1.66 per day for now, and I’m okay with that. (There are three Omaha stores that sell the brand, and my boyfriend’s mom suggested tonight that her hubby check prices for me – he commutes to work up there. I doubt that anything local will beat the online prices, but will keep you posted.)
I am so intrigued by homemade raw food; but with two jobs and only one animal, I’ll pay the price to have someone else do the preparations. Yeah, lazy… I know.
I priced out wellness once for all my cats, and the total came to more than we spend on food for ourselves.
If you find out about Omaha prices let me know- I go to school there every couple of weeks.
I really can’t wait till I’m graduated and have my "real" job. Then I’ll be able to afford the best…

Thanks guys. This species will live for about 2-3 years, but can occasionally live up to 5.
So, what are you going to do with the litter? Hang outside of wal-mart and see if people will adopt them? Or will you keep them all?
