Unlike other dairy foods, babies can sometimes handle yogurt with no problem… don’t start milk or cheese until after 1 year.

i have a 17-month-old toddler, but he’s a bit picky when it comes to foods. he only tolerates cerelac, bread, and some fruits, but other than that, he doesn’t want meat. he eats fish, but not most of the time, so i always end up feeding him only cerelac and milk the whole day. he’s very healthy though, a bit on the chubby side, as a matter of fact. but i was wondering about the foods you feed your toddlers. what do you feed them? do you let them eat meat already, and how much and how often?

i’ve talked with another parent, and she told me that i should start him on more solid foods because it might take his throat a longer time to get used to adult diet. is this true? or i could just continue feeding him milk and cerelac most of the time, since those are what he tolerates right now? when do toddlers really start eating adult diet like fried meat, rice, etc because i’m kinda worried about what she said.
how much do you feed them? do you give them just a taste, two spoonfuls, their own plates? i get confused about this, especially since i’m working so i really can’t keep a close eye on his diet.

My son is 14 months…he eats oatmeal, yogurt, cheese sandwiches, quesadillas with cheese and chicken, all fruits, almost anything we eat…but he will only eat chicken grilled with ketchup, wheat breads and crackers, no juice. He also refuses veggies, no matter what I do.

You should try some other things like dry blueberry waffles, banana bread, cassseroles and pot pies..and make sure you are giving wheat breads not white (empty calories)

We feed our 14.5 month old pretty much whatever we are having. For example, in the morning he has a banana and some Cheerios with milk, lunch is cheese and a yogurt or something like that and dinner is chicken and pasta and usually a Gerber 2nd veggie mixed up with some Rice cereal. Rarely do I give him cookies or junk–
I always am looking for more things to feed him. He won’t eat any red meat.
I just give him a little bowl full or a small pile of whatever right on his highchair tray. I should give him a spoon or dish but it is SO messy…

At 17 months I was feeding my son pretty much anything he would eat which was just about everything my hubby and I eat. He’s 21 months now and he gets anything my husband and I eat and has for a while. For a short while I thought my son was getting really picky, but then I realized he just wanted to feed himself. It was difficult and messy and time consuming, but now he eats an awesome variety of foods. At this point your son needs to be eating a balanced diet with a lot of variety. Try to give him lots of options, different fruits, veggies(dips and cheese sauce help a lot to get toddlers to eat veggies I’ve found), meats if they’ll take them, eggs cheese, nuts and beans if they wont take meat, and a lot of different whole grains including rice. At this point you’re son needs to start eating real food, not processed cereal for every meal of the day.

Edit: Their own plates! Or just feed him off your plate till you get an idea of what he can and will eat and how much he will eat.

my daughter is going on 18 months and usually i would give her something like this for the day :
8AM: crackers in a lil baggie and a sippy cup of milk
10AM : homemade mini pancakes with fresh strawberries in them in her own plastic plate with sippie cup of sunny d
12noon: cheese curls or cookies (i usually let her pick any one snack she wants) when we go to the store i let her out of the carriage and she picks what she wants for snacks
2PM: fluff sandwich on her plastic purple plate with a straw cup of chocolate milk
4PM: snack in baggie for ride to go get daddy from work with sippie cup of juice
6PM: she is picky with supper so she will usually have grilled cheese or raviolis or mac and cheese and green beans
8PM: after her tub night time snack usually fresh strawberries (she loves them) with sippie of milk

at that age my kids ate the same things as me. we also gave the kids pedia sure after consulting our family doctor with our picky eater. ultimately talk to his doctor and see what he says. i would deffanitly give him his own plate to eat from it’ll will save troubles later down the road and give him just a few spoonful it wont take much to fill him up
