Today is the first time I have seen the Nuttall’s woodpecker chick (Picoides nuttallii) being fed outside of it’s nesting hole. I have noticed that it usually has it’s eyes closed at the moment the food is transferred.

I fed this starling some bread because it was asking me for some food. People had camped net to it’s nest so the mother was not going to return and the fledglings ha ventured out of the nest. I thought maybe feeding it would make it stay put when I put it back. Didn’t work.

Question–: When should I start feeding my son baby food?
My son is 3 in half months old and has been eating rice cereal in his bottle since he was 6 weeks old (due to his acid reflux the Dr recommended he would keep more food down that way) I tried just as an experiment the other day to put some in a bowl and feed him with a spoon and he took to it immediately. I was just wondering when I should start feeding him baby food other than cereal?

we tried at 4 months but they became really consitpated soo when we took them to the dr the dr told us around 5 – 5 1/2 months they should start.. and they have been fine eve since:)

6 months. They really aren’t ready before this. It can cause digestive problems and they don’t need anything other that formula/breast milk. In fact, their main source of nutrition until 12 months is formula/breast milk. Food is just for practice til then.

i started around now with my youngest and she loved it! my eldest 2 i started at 4 months and they did really well with it! if he took to it from a spoon then you can probably carry on solids now! since he is already used to cereal you can start on baby foods now also!

6 months. Rice cereal in the bottle of a newborn is some of the worst advice I’ve ever heard! Their digestive tracts are not completely closed yet. It’s really not a good idea.

There are LOADS of formula’s formulated for acid reflux. Rice cereal in a bottle to thicken it is not a great idea. There are other options available.

Introducing solids too early can lead to food allergies and other gut problems later in life.

wait till he is 4 months before introducing anything other than ceral or baby rice, then maybe once or twice a week try other /puree foods, maybe try puree fruits, just don’t change too much at once as it could cause him to get diahorrea and constipation, and more likely the latter.

my son is 15 weeks and we started him on babyfood this week. We were told to as he went from sleeping right through the night to gettin up every 4 hours as the milk wasnt sustaining him and he ws still crying after a 7oz feed. I give gim 5oz of his bottle then with the remaining 2oz, I mix with baby rice, purified banana or purified apple. He loves it and I got my first full night sleep last night in weeks!
