Umm it really depends on what your doctor says..My son will be 5 months old in a week and the doctor told me 2 days ago I can start him on meats and stage 2 foods..He really took to eating it well. We started on cereal and he ate it for a week and got sick of it . So i just started mixing a little bit of 1st foods in with the cereal and he LOVED it…Just ask the doctor , They should be able to give you a definate answer.. Hope this helps

If you are already starting solids (4 1/2 months is pretty early for that), I would highly reccomend switching to veggies next week. Baby cereals offer little in the way of nutrition. Better you have your son eat veggies. Sweet potaotes are usually accepted well by infants.
Regardless of when you introduce new foods, you need to wait a few days before switching to something new. That way, you are alert to allergies/sensitivities.
Bananas, avacados, and sweet potatoes are tolerated well by infants. For bananas and avacados, you can just smush up some ripe ones for your baby. With sweet potatoes, you need to cook them first, them mush them up.

Babies don’t need cereal, and shouldn’t start solids (including cereal) until at least 6 mo. At his young age, he doesn’t have the ability to appropriately digest solid food. Also breastmilk (or formula if you aren’t nursing) has a much higher density of nutrition for the calories than solids.
I skipped cereal all together and went straight to mashed and pureed vegetables. I would just steam or roast veggies for us and then mash them with a hand blender and some expressed breast milk. Much cheaper (and better) than canned baby food. But I would wait. Really. Even though he “likes it” He also likes nursing, no?
