As long as you’re breastfeeding, don’t worry about it! Solids before 12 months are mostly for fun and practice, baby should still get most of their nutrients from you.
My 8, almost 9 month old also still nurses on demand. He has maybe a couple tablespoons of cheeri-os in the morning. He has a few bites of whatever we have for dinner–lentils, veggies, beans, fruits, etc. Sometimes he’ll have a cracker or some little cheese cubes. He doesn’t eat more than about 1/3 c. TOTAL of solids a day. I let him nurse on demand and he calls the shots about how much solids he eats. I figure he’s a smart kid, he knows when he’s hungry. Your job is to offer, his job is to eat as much as he wants (or doesn’t want.)
We don’t do baby cereal, it’s nutritionally worthless. I feed him mostly veggies and fruits, with legumes and real whole grains, and sometimes soft meats. Baby food tastes awful. Why not just let him eat what you eat–provided you eat healthy and are not going to ram fried stuff with gravy down his throat?

Since you are breastfeeding, don’t worry about it. If you are worried give your ped. a call. Otherwise with my baby she eats about 4 oz. of food a day. She is seven months old and eats the gerber food, soon we are going to be off that b/c someone got us an awesome blender for Christmas for her. So I will be making my own. My baby hates the rice cereal…have you ever tried that stuff, it taste well cardboards has more flavor. Don’t force it to baby it takes a lot of practice, just let baby eat a few bites for practice. Mine also hates any green veggies. Try to make your own, google it. Best of luck!

Q&A–: When did your kids stop eating baby food?
I have a 15 month old son that used to eat a combination of table food and baby food but for the past two weeks he only wants the baby food. I feel like he’s regressing.

Answer by 19 & Mommy of 3
both of my kids got off the baby food when they truned one. But every now and then they still eat the apple sauce from the baby food jars but thats only every now and then like once every month or so. Just try feeding him table food more than baby food eventually he would have to get use to it unless hes really picky like my 3 1/2 year old!
Answer by HELPMYBOREDOM
All 3 children were different – 10 months, 8 months, and 18 months. I wouldn’t worry about it, as long as he’s eating.

it all depend all my three were different one stop at 15 months the other 2 and 2 and half. They are 5,5,and 3 now. In November when one of my so who is 5 now had is tonsils out that’s all he would eat it was the stage one. My kids still love it i don’t know why either. So don’t worry it won’t hurt him.

My daughter did both for a while…I think she finally stopped taking baby food around 15 months. When you feed him, do you mix both baby food and table food together, or one or the other at different times? At first I would always “dip” whatever table food I was feeding her into the baby food and give it to her like that. then, as she got used to it, it started giving her bites without the babyfood until she no longer wanted the babyfood at all…

Seriously, just be glad he’s eating. My son did that for a while and then quit eating the baby food altogether. Don’t worry. If you are really concerned, just don’t offer the baby food anymore, just offer his favorite baby food “flavors” in table food variety. If he is really hungry, he’ll eat the table food. Be ready if he doesn’t eat, though. Don’t worry, he’ll eat table food without the baby food when he is ready.
Good luck and best wishes.

I wouldn’t worry about. as long as he is eating and eating healthy foods (and baby food is very healthy) keep offering table food, he will eat it when he is ready. My son ate baby food till he was closer to 2! He loved it!! My daughter was about 15 months when she started eating almost all table food. after that she would still eat is sometimes, and they both ate baby food veggies better than table veggies.

I stopped giving my son baby food shortly after he reached the “turkey & rice dinner” stage (about 10 months). Once you hit that stage and beyond, the food tastes awful and isn’t very healthy. Read the back of one of those Gerber Graduates and decide if YOU would eat that crap!
Kids at that age go through phases – at one point my son stopped eating all meat, then he rejected Cheerios. He would decide he liked something and only want that. Totally normal.
I agree with not worrying too much -hey, he’s eating. But I would start to wean him off the baby food completely, knowing that he won’t starve and will discover new & healthier alternatives.

Of course WE wouldn’t eat that food. We also aren’t 15 months old! whats is Gerber baby food? pure fruits, veggies, meats. almost no salt, no butter, no preservatives or things we cant pronounce. (sorry-your last answer was just stupid and that irritates me)

My kids were around 18 months and would still eat it sometimes. I still buy the squash baby food and “hide” it in spaghetti sauce. squash is so healthy. I also buy sweet potato baby food and have it on hand when they want a “treat” and put cinnamon in it. they love it and its so healthy!
continue to offer him finger foods and if he wants baby food I would not worry at all. Its healthy, hes eating, he is fine. he will eat more table food when he is ready. I know people that do not give their kids any prepackaged foods or sweets till they are 2 years old (they basically make baby food or fresh veggies, meats, fruits, etc in small bits) they are probably more healthy than rest of us. He will get it in his own time.
